Activities of the year 2007-2008
July 2007 An orientation on N.S.S organized for first year students of
the college on 7th
July 07.In this programme, the
programme officer of N.S.S gave a talk which focused on
N.S.S.History, regular activities special camping activities
etc. This session was well attended students who were
introduced to an entirely new youth program.
The volunteers celebrated World Population day on 11th
July 2007.On this day Slogan Writing Completion for
generating awareness on population explosion and its
effects was organized. It was open for all students of the
college. At the same time our volunteers organized a book
exhibition on population in the college library.
On 14th
July 2007 the volunteers visited Sumer Nagar and
Dadabari Kachhi Basti. The volunteers interacted with
Basti Dwellers and came to know about their problems.
On 18th
July tree plantation was taken up in the
Community Centre Park, Sec 1, and Mansarovar by Unit I
and II.
An Eye camp was organized on 30th
and 31st July and 1
st &
2nd
August 2007.for all the students of the college. It also
covered the III and IV class employees of the college and
the faculty members. N.S.S volunteers contributed
significantly to this purpose.
August 2007 To mark the world World Breast Feeding Week, a poster
competition was organized to educate the community and
the students about the significance of Breast Feeding. The
results were as follows

The advisory committee meeting of N.S.S was held on 11th
August 2007, in the Principal’s room, in which the
principal, programme officer and student leaders
participated and approved the N.S.S calendar for the year
2007-08.
A personal Grooming Workshop was organized on 11th
August 2007 for the volunteers by V.L.C.C Experts. The
Team consisted of Yogita Nahta, Lipi Kapoor, Tanu Dubey
and senior hair dresser Bobby. Nutritional counseling for
the adolescents with focus on a balanced diet was
discussed. Light make up and personal grooming tips were
shared along with upkeep and maintenance of hair.
On 15th
August, Independence Day celebration took place
in the campus, in which all the volunteers of both the units
participated .The chief guest on this occasion was the
Director of the college Dr. Ashok Gupta.Volunteers put
up a spectacular cultural programme with patriotic fervor
On the occasion of Sadbhavana Divas, 18th August 2007,
two activities were organized. A Rakhi making competition
for the students of Gurukul-IIS.All the students of Gurukul
participated in Rakhi making competition where the best 5
rakhis were awarded. The winners were:-
Ist Prize-Chanchal Agarwal –ClassVI,
II Prize -Shobha Prajapat Class-VI,
III Prize- Gauri Class VII, and
Meenu- Class VIII
In order to sensitize the volunteers to the activities of
special children, a visit to Umang (School for Children with
special needs) was organized on Sadbhavana Divas. The
volunteers also interacted with the students of Umang.On
this occasion Ms. Deepak Kalra, Principal, Umang,
delivered a talk about the needs and requirements of the
children suffering from Psychological Disorders. This was
followed by a visit to the classes and interaction with the
special children. Thereafter the students continued their
interaction and their contacts with these children
throughout the year.
On 29th
August 2007, an interaction of the volunteers and
faculty of the college for Japanese exchange Programme
was organized.Mr. Kazuhiko Ueda ,Principal and Ms Rie
Sakamoto for the planning Department,Unitas Language
School, Japan discussed the prospects of Exchange. They
answered the queries of the students regarding the
procedure of admission, scholarships etc.The education
system of Japan and India was also discussed in this
programme.
September 2007 Nukkad Nataks on Literacy were prepared by the
volunteers which were presented by them for the inmates of
Dada Bari Basti and Sumer nagar Basti on the occasion of
International Literacy Day on 8th
September 2007.These
were also screened for the college students on this
occasion. At the same time a Poster making competition on
the significance of Literacy was organize in the campus.
The purpose was to spread the message of literacy and its
importance in the development of the country. The result of
this competition was:-

The II Intercollege Patriotic Song Competition was
organized on 24th
September 2008 at the IIIM Auditorium
at the Mahaveer Nagar campus, to mark NSS Foundation
Day. All the different colleges were invited to send
participation for this competition. 12 colleges of Jaipur and
Lachoo Memorial College, Jodhpur participated in this
event. The Chief Guest on this occasion was Sh. Jasbir
Jain, Chairman Rajasthan State Minority Commision.The
Judges for this event was Mr. Gaurav Jain, Ms.Seema Raj
and Mr. Vivek.The running Trophy was bagged by ICG but
since it was the host college ,it was passed on to the first
runners up i.e. University’s Maharani College. The results
of this competition were:-

A lecture on the Aims and Objectives of NSS was
delivered by Sh. Ashok Kewalia, APA, NSS Regional
centre Jaipur on 12th September 2007.
On Hindi Diwas, 14 September 2007, a debate on Desh
key Vikas key liye udarikaran anivarya hai. Was
organized to encourage and promote the use of Hindi as a
mother language. This programme was organized in joint
collaboration with the Department of Hindi and was open
for all the students of the college. The students put forth
their arguments in favors and against the topic with a lot
of enthusiasm, using their debating skills efficiently. The
Chief Guest on this occasion was Pandit KalaNath
Shastri. The results were as follows:-

On the occasion of International Peace day, a lecture on
the activities of the Art of Living was organized by NSS.
The Art of Living teacher Ms Alka Tej Singh highlighted
the role of the Art of Living Foundation in generating
world peace and harmony. A film on the philanthropic
Activities was screened on this occasion
20 Volunteers of NSS participated in the training on the
preparation of Olympiad for the disabled to be held in the
month of November 2007. This programme was organized
by Disha- a school for the mentally challenged children,
located at T.N. Misra marg, Rail Nagar, Jaipur.
October 2007 A two day camp to check the hemoglobin count in blood
and to identify blood group was organized with the help of
Swasthya Kalyan Blood Bank, Jaipur on 10th
and 11th
October, 2007. This camp covered all the students of the
college as well as the faculty, office staff, lab assistants,
drivers and the peons of the IIS School and that of the
college. On this occasion, a lecture on the Significance of
the Nutritive Diet and Hemoglobin was taken up by
Dr.K.K.Misra from the Swasthya Kalyan Blood Bank,
Jaipur.
On 11 October 2007, Professor Neelambar Hatti from the
Lund University, Sweden delivered a lecture on Declining
Sex Ratio and Female Foeticide .He highlighted the causes
and effects of female foeticide in western Rajasthan and
among the educated people of India with the help of
statistics and figures.He raised a grave concern on the issue
of declining sex ratio and its effects leading to gender
imbalance.
Community service was taken up the volunteers in dadabari
slum and Sumer Nagar Basti on 13 October 2007.
A Blood Donation Camp was organized by NSS on 24
October 2007 in the college campus .This Camp was
inaugurated by Sh. Vasudev Devnani, honorable Minister
of Education. On this occasion, a lecture on Myths and
Facts related to blood donation was delivered by Dr.
Nagendra Singh , from Swasthya Kalyan Blood Bank,
Jaipur.56 units of card and a blood donation certificate
from the blood bank.
November 2007 College with the help of an NGO-SURE that works for
generating an awareness on the growing incidence of
foeticide in the country. The activities were conducted by a
team headed by Dr. Meeta Singh.
On 3rd
November 2007, the community work involved
generating an awareness to prevent Female Foesticide for this
purpose; the students interacted with the men and women in the
community, who were brought to the Aanganbadi Center in the
Basti for this purpose. The social traditions that perpetuate this
practice were discussed. The volunteers gave the message with
the help of a Prerna Geet and a puppet show.
A pledge for maintaining the solidarity of the nation was
administered by the Principal, Dr. Raakhi Gupta to the NSS
volunteers on 19th
November 2007, which was the National
Unity Day.
To mark the Environment Conservation day, a lecture and
documentary screening on the importance of conserving the
Environment was delivered by Prof. A.S. Brar on
26th
November 2007.
December 2007 A Slogan Competition on generating an awareness about
HIV AIDS was organized on World AIDS Day i.e.1st
December 2007 which was open for all students of the
college.
On 10th
December 2007, the community was focused on
the Importance of Health and Hygiene and spread the
message of cleanliness and Hygiene necessary for a healthy
living among the children. The volunteers checked the nails
of the children in the Aanganbadi Center and in the Gyan
Vihar School as well as Sumerpur Nagar Government
School trimmed the nails of the children themselves.
On 13th
and 14th
December 2007, the volunteers were
involved in the preparation of the Special Camp, which was
to be beginning on the 15th
of December.
Special Camp for the NSS volunteers of Unit I and Unit II
was organized from 15-24 December 2007.The camp was
inaugurated on 15th
December by Shri Ashok
Kewalia,APA,N.S.S Regional Center,GOI,Jaipur in the
presence of the Director Dr.Ashok Gupta and Dr.Rakhi
Gupta,Principal of the College. The Camp Valediction was
on 24th
December 2007.The Chief Guest on this occasion
was Shri Bhupinder Singh IPS, Director Rajasthan Police
Academy. A detailed Report of the Camp activities is
attached separately.
January 2008 A book exhibition was organized on Swami Vivekananda on 12
th
January 2007 on the occasion of Vivekananda Jayanti. On the same day
the students carried out their Basti and helped the school children with
the problems of Math’s and Science.
Republic Day was celebrated in the college campus. A small
programme was organized by the NSS volunteers after the Flag Hoisting
along with the distribution of Sweets and refreshments.
30th
January was the Martyrs day and to mark this day. A Film on
Gandhi was screened for the volunteers.
February 2008 A lecture on Consumer Awareness by Ms. Rimika
Singhvi was organized on 5th
February 2008, which was
followed by Basti activities, where the students undered
their services chosen area.
On 13th
February 2008, the volunteers took up the task of
assisting the students of Umang in their chores in the
school.
A state level Patriotic Song Competition was organized by
ICG in joint collaboration with Director of College
Education NSS cell on 15th
Feb.2008. (A detailed Report
attached).
An Adolescent Health Consultation Camp was organized
on 16th
Feb.2008 in which Dr. S.Agarwal, a Gynaelogist
gave a presentation on Women Health. The students put forth
their queries which were answered by her.
A lecture on Communication Skills were delivered by the
famous T.V. personality Sh.Deepak Mahan for N.S.S.
students on 19th
Feb. 2008
March 2008 On 1
st March 2008 a lecture was on Panchayati Raj and
Women by Ms. Mona Vyas.
On 2nd
March 2008 a lecture on Effective
Communication was delivered on the Achievements of
Women was organized for the Volunteers and the Basti by
Ms. Rimika Singhvi.
On 8th
March 2008.the students interacted with the Basti
Women and gave information on Women’s Rights and
also gave the message with the help of Slogans.
On 17th
March 2008, Ms.Mona Vyas gave a lecture on
Local Self Government with special reference to Rajasthan.
Volunteers continued their association with the disabled
children of Umang and helped them with their studies and
also spent time with them on 16,17,18,19 March 2008.
On 25th
March 2008 a lecture was on Female Feticides
was delivered by Dr. Jyoti Thanvi.
