No matter who you are or what you do, you will be presented with a fair share of new challenges daily. If there were no challenges, then there would be no learning experiences. Every day would be a repeat of the day before. Drawing on these issues, past AAHPERD president Irene Cucina will share how she has faced challenges in her professional and personal life using a positive approach. During this session, Irene will share how to embrace challenges in order to create better days for yourself and your students by following the three Cs. AM 1: Action For Healthy Kids, School Wellness Workshop (Philpott)

Participants will be guided through the easy-to-follow steps and activities of the Action for Healthy Kids “Game On” Program that can be used to make schools healthier places for kids to grow and learn. This training will also provide information on the USDA’s Healthier US Schools Challenge Certification and teach schools how to use the School Health Index to review school needs.(To register for this workshop, please visit http://www.actionforhealthykids.org/events/trainings-and-conferences/event/438 )

AM 2: High School Health: An Overview of Assessments, Activities, Technology Integration, and Student Groupings (Dombach)

Are you ready to freshen up your health class? Come to this session to learn about assessment ideas, engaging activities, ways to integrate technology, and different ways to group students!

PM 3: Adapted Activities: 123’s of APE (Portelli, McManus, Ober & McCoy)

We will examine and discuss the Components of a meaningful Adapted Physical Education (APE) program which promotes independent, safe and successful participation.

PM 4: Safe and Healthy Students: Raising Mental Health Awareness and Preventing Youth Suicide (Miller, Dacosta)

Experience a team-taught suicide prevention lesson plan: Aevidum (meaning “I Got your Back”). Participants will receive a copy of the student handbook, teacher guided plan and the keynote presentation.

PM 5: iPad Resources for Physical Education, Health, and Fitness

This hands-on workshop is designed to enhance iPad skills, integration and knowledge. Bring your iPad, questions, energy, and prepare to roll up your sleeves. (Additional fee of $25 for “iPad Resources for Physical Education, Health and Fitness Book”, plus Convention Registration)
