English

The children will be producing pieces of writing for their portfolios.

These will be a range of genres including diary entries, narratives, balanced arguments, explanation texts, information writing, newspaper reports and persuasive writing. They will be looking to develop their writing skills in a range of areas:

• creating atmosphere, and integrating dialogue to convey character and advance the action;

• selecting vocabulary and grammatical structures that reflect the level of formality required;

• using a range of cohesive devices, including adverbials, within and across sentences and paragraphs;

• using passive and modal verbs;

• using a wide range of clause structures, varying their position within the sentence;

• using adverbs, preposition phrases and expanded noun phrases effectively to add detail, qualification and precision;

• using inverted commas, commas for clarity, semi-colons, dashes, brackets, colons, hyphens.

Maths

The children will be revising for their SATs test in maths.

These are the broad areas that the children will be revising:

● Number and place value● Addition, subtraction, multiplication and

division● Fractions, decimals and percentages● Ratio and proportion● Algebra● Measurement● Properties of shapes● Position and direction● Statistics
