CITEDI-IPN SPIE STUDENT CHAPTER• CITEDI-IPN Student Chapter was established in February 2013 bystudents of the M. Sc. and PhD programsin Digital Systems atCentro de Investigación y Desarrollo de Tecnología Digital - IPN(CITEDI-IPN), Tijuana, Mexico.

OBJECTIVES• The main objective of CITEDI-IPN Student Chapter is to promoteresearch in optics and image processing inside and outside of ourresearch center. We are also interested to exchange ideas withexperts in fields of optics, digital image processing, and relatedareas, which greatly contribute in the development of our researchwork.• We contribute to increase the optics and photonics science andtechnology community in Latin-America, giving simple efforts tofoster optics activities and motivate young people to becomeinterested in optics and photonics research.

ABOUT CITEDI-IPN

• CITEDI, Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo de Tecnología Digital, is a researchand development center of digital technology located in Tijuana, Baja California, aborder city betweenMexico and the USA.

• CITEDI is part of Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), one of the largestinstitutions of the country. The purpose of our institution is to develop, promoteand transfer basic and applied research to develop high- level technologies in thearea of electronics and computing, and to train human resources with graduateprograms of excellence.

ACTIVITIES2014-2015

SPIE OPTICS + PHOTONICSLEADERSHIP WORKSHOP• We attended the SPIE Optics + Photonics LeadershipWorkshop inAugust 2014, San Diego, CA. This was the second time that ourchapter collaborated with others chapters. It was a greatopportunity to increase our performance to manage our chaptersactivities.

ACTIVITY: SPIE OPTICS+PHOTONICS, SANDIEGO• SPIE Student Chapter Officer Grant y SPIE Optics + PhotonicsLeadershipWorkshop, Ago, 2014• We had the opportunity to meet wonderful people fromall over theworld. We learned how to manage our chapter and how to beproductive in different areas of our careers.

POSTER PRESENTATION SPIEOPTICS+PHOTONICS CONFERENCE• This is our second poster presentation of our student chapter andwas presented by some of our student members during SPIE Optics+Photonics 2014.

ACTIVITY: SPIE OPTICS+PHOTONICS, SANDIEGO• Oral presentation was developed from some of our student chaptermembers.• The topics of the presentations were pattern recognition, opticalcorrelation filtering, and computer vision with graphics processors.

ACTIVITY: "DESCUBRE TU POSGRADO VIP"• A teleconference was organized for undergraduate students fromuniversities at Mexico City to promote the research done by thegroup.

ACTITIVITY: “DESCUBRE TU POSGRADO ENCITEDI”

• In this activity, we promoted our research activities to undergraduatestudents in order to motivate them to continue their science andengineering career. In this context our chapter presented the main resultsin pattern recognition, optic correlation filtering applications, andcomputer vision.

PROMOTION OF OPTICS IN UABC TIJUANA

• Our Advisor, Professor VíctorHugo Díaz Ramírez presenting atthe annual seminar of sciencegraduate programs at theAutonomus University of BajaCalifornia (UABC), TijuanaCampus.

KIDS VISITING CITEDI

• In this activity, we promotescience and technonologyfocused on optics basis, imageand signal processingapplications, in order to motivateelementary school kids that wona software competition.

ACTIVITY: VISITING "EL TROMPO"• "El trompo" is a local interactive museum that promotestechnology and science to children and general public. Chaptermembers in their presentations had the opportunity to share theirknowledge of digital signal processing with a focus on Optics.

TIJUANA INNOVADORA

• A biannual event in the city whereindustry, commerce, technologyand the public connect. Chaptermembers in the institution's standin this event presented digitalimage processing research focusedon Optics.

FINANCIAL INFORMATION• The cost for attending to SPIE Optics+Photonics was covered withthe Officer Travel Grant for conference pass, lodging, registrationfee and transportation.

FUTUREWORKOurmain activities 2015-2016 are listed below:• SPIE Optics+Photonics LeadershipWorkshop.• SPIE Optics+Photonics oral and poster presentation.• SPIE Lecturer visit at CITEDI.• Optics Science and Technology promotion at “Descubre tuPosgrado 2015” to undergraduate students.• Promote optics, image processing and computer vision at nationaland local congresses.• Promote optics in student visits to the research center.
