TASK 9: ACTORS/COSTUM

ES

Page 2: Actors and Costumes

Mia Taylor – Elizabeth Waddington◦I was suitable for the role of Elizabeth, as I have a good

understanding of the stereotype she is portraying.◦ I am also the age that our character is, which gives our opening

sequence realism. ◦We also wanted our character to be tall and blonde, both of which

I am.◦For my costume, I used a black skirt, a white shirt and a pair of

black tights, which I already owned. This was appropriate as it was smart, to suit the school environment. Also, it is conventionally stereotypical attire.

Nathaniel Berry – Hugo ◦Nat was perfect for the role of ‘Hugo’, as, conventionally, the male

lead is tall and handsome. ◦Also, like me, he fully understood the conventional stereotypes of his

role, therefore played it brilliantly.◦He had all the appropriate, stereotypical clothing for the role, which

was, again, conventional in a smart school scene.

Penny-Mai Bullivant - Cecil◦Penny-Mai (Maisie) was suitable for this role, as she had

a great understanding of what sort of person we wanted her to play.

◦Also, we wanted her to contrast Elizabeth, for example, hair colour, eye colour, height etc. Therefore, she was appropriate for the role of Cecil, as she has dark brown hair, hazel coloured eyes and is shorter in height than me.

◦This contrasts perfectly due to fact that my hair is blonde, my eyes are green/blue and I am of a greater height than Penny.

Oriella Nicoli-Horne - Katherine◦ Oriella was very suitable for this role, as she fully understood the

conventional stereotypes of her role which is the most important factor. Due to the fact that she knew the conventional stereotypes of her role, she played the part exactly the way we wanted her to.

◦ Conveniently, Oriella attended a secondary school where the girls were required to wear black, pleated skirts, smart, white shirts and ties, therefore, she already had the correct costume for he role.

◦ Conventionally/stereotypically in teen musicals, the female lead has a side kick that looks pretty different to the female lead in order to make the female lead stand out more. We chose Oriella, as she has dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. Also, she in thinner and shorter than me. Not that these factors will make me stand out more, however they will cause the audience to differentiate between the two of us.

◦ Lastly, for this role, we required an individual with a pretty face which is why we chose Oriella.
