Provide detailed descriptions from chosen examples of sounds that establish…

Clearly state what production technique(s) you think have been used to create specific soundtrack elements

Setting The setting sounds like some kind of inside, as there are clear, heavy footsteps, though there is wind, so maybe some kind of opening. There are also a few beeps, which could be someone opening a door of some kind in the future. One kind of people mentions whatever they are looking at to be “New York”. The other character asks what they’ve done, meaning the city could be in ruins? Or maybe completely different.

The footsteps could’ve been made in a studio with real footsteps, or by a foley artist to try to get the best sounds. The wind sounds may be field recordings, or just with MIDI instruments. The beeping of some kind of console may be a computer edited/created sound.

Mood The mood it gives you at the beginning is sort of a, ‘last hope’ kind of feeling as the way they are talking could kind of suggest this. Also, when one of the characters ask’s “What have they done?” , it gives the impression that something has happened to the city that one of the characters talks about. The music in it also gives this impression as it is a mix of intensity, and sadness.

The sounds that give this feeling could’ve been made by MIDI instruments, possibly software. Also, there is music playing in the clip. This could have been some purpose made music or it could have been chosen to fit the situation.

Game genre The game sounds as if it could be some kind of war game, as they talk about something called ‘CELL’ which could be some kind of military organisation that controls something. Another thing, their clothing seems to sound heavy, with lots of jingly things, which could be dogtags, grenades, parts of their outfit. They also talk about this organisation having a big power source powered by alien technology, which could be an end of world scenario, which a character mentions.

The sounds that seem to be coming from some kind of armour may have been made by field recordings, or studio recording of real version, or maybe even a foley artist as they sounds could’ve been re-made better. Also, the sound of doors may have been made in a computer software.

Narrative The narrative sounds quite dire as they are talking honestly between themselves. One of the character appears as if he is explaining something to someone that sounds like they’ve been missing, or asleep. Also, one character talks about needing help to stop CELL. They also talk about aliens, which could’ve been a threat but they also mention that ‘Prophet’ took them out. They talk about an end of world situation aswell, which could prove problematic for the ‘good’ guys.

The voice acting might have been done by actors on a set to try and get into the role, similarly, they could’ve been done just in a recording studio sat next to each other.
