FIESTA AMERICANA HOTEL

Over 450 years old and the capital and largest city of the Mexican state of Yucatán, Mérida was founded in 1542 by Spanish conquistadors at the site of the Mayan city of Tho’, Mérida is considered by some the longest-standing city in the Americas. Just miles away from the Gulf of Mexico, the city and its surroundings provide stunning displays of both Mayan ruins and colonial architecture.

Mérida offers a unique cultural experience, combining history, art, architecture, music, distinctive food, and much more. The city is built around many plazas, which residents use daily for entertainment and social activities. The largest plaza, the Plaza Grande, is located downtown and is filled with entertainment and surrounded by restaurants, cafés, and vendors. Mérida’s most famous avenue, Paseo de Montejo, is lined with original sculpture and attractive haciendas.

The center of the city contains the Monumento a la Patria, which depicts the history of Mexico carved in pink stone. The Governor’s Palace (Palacio del Gobierno), displays murals of the history of the Yucatán and Mayan people by the area’s most famous painter, Fernando Castro Pacheco. Enrique Gottdiener Soto, who spent 40 years in Mérida, demonstrated his admiration for the Mayan culture in his bronze sculptures exhibited in the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MACAY). These are just some of the many interesting aspects of Mérida

CelestúnJust 57 miles from Mérida, Celestún is a picturesque coastal port with extensive beaches noted for their flocks of pink flamingos. The pink flamingos bathe in the Ria de Celestún and can be observed during a short motorboat ride. There are also approximately 234 species of mammals that live here, including the endangered jaguar and spider monkey. Beverages not included.Price per person: $1,092 MXN or approximately $86 USD

Chichén ItzáThe famous Mayan pyramids of Chichén Itzá, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are located 72 miles from Mérida. The majesty of Chichén Itzá is recognized worldwide and is a popular destination. Includes: Transportation by air-conditioned vehicle, English-Spanish bilingual guide, entrance to Chichén Itzá, and a three-course meal. The large pre-historic buildings were built for worship of Zamná, a wise and benevolent deity of the ancient Mayans. Among its attractions is the Franciscan convent completed in 1562. Numerous pilgrims come to pray at the feet of Our Lady of Izamal in the convent, which has hosted special events such as the visit of Pope John Paul II in 1993. Includes: Transportation by air-conditioned vehicle, English-Spanish bilingual guide, entrance to the convent and art museum, and a three-course meal.
