Masters programs

Master of Social Work

For qualified social workers (already AASW eligible)

Program designed to allow you to extend your current qualifications and practice experience or move into new areas of interest

Completed in 1 year full time or the part time equivalent

Degree of 1.5 years duration is available for AASW-eligible applicants who do not hold a 4 year BSW

Core courses - • SWSP7255 Theorising Social Work Practice• SWSP7205 Professional Leadership and Supervision in Social Work• SWSP7700 Professional Practice Portfolio for Social Work

• You will also choose from a wide range of courses in professionally relevant specialisations, including:

– Child, Youth and Family– Counselling– Social Policy*– Mental Health*– Community Development*

Alternatively, you can choose courses from across all specialisations.

Masters programs

Master of Social Work Studies (Qualifying)

For those applicants with a non social work bachelor degree who are interested in becoming qualified social workers

Entry requires some demonstrated study in the social or behavioral sciences

Completed in 2 year full time or the part time equivalent

Degree of 1.5 years duration is available for graduates of the Bachelor of Human Services that is accredited with the AIWCW.

Core courses cover the following - • Introduction to Social Work• Moral and Ethical Foundations • Direct Practice Skills• Legal Context and Social Work• Human Development• Social Policy • Practice in Mental Health• Research• Field Placement (2 semesters)

Electives –

Students can select 2 electives from a variety of courses, including (but not limited to) – community development, counselling, family therapy, health systems, child protection, research project

* Above is the 2 year program. The 1.5 year program provides has less core courses, and three electives

Master of Counselling

Many people working within the human services professions consider incidental or informal counselling to be an important part of the work that they do. By studying the Master of Counselling you will be provided with an in-depth knowledge base and the practical skills of professional counselling – serving individuals, couples, families and groups in our community.

Completed in 2 year full time or the part time equivalent

Electives –

Students can select an elective from a variety of courses, including (but not limited to) –

Applied Gerontology, Career Guidance / Counselling, Substance Abuse and Misuse, Population Health, Social Research, Public Health Psychology

Graduate Certificate in Social Work (Mental Health)

• Mental health represents a significant area of social work practice. Mental illness is ever-present and Social Workers

need a solid skills and knowledge-base in mental health no matter where they work.

Available to qualified social workers Articulates into the Master of Social Work Open to domestic students only, and is studied over 1 year part time

Open to domestic students only, and is studied over 1 year part time
