SECTION 13420-FLOW MEASUREMENT DEVICES PART 1 – GENERAL 1.01 WORK INCLUDED

A. The CONTRACTOR shall furnish and install all primary devices, transmitters, primary and secondary receivers, analyzers and accessory items as shown on the Contract Drawings and as specified herein.

1.02 RELATED WORK

A. Division 1 – General Requirements

B. Division 16 – Electrical

PART 2 – PRODUCTS 2.01 INSTRUMENTS AND ACCESSORIES. A . Area Velocity Radar Flow Meter (Flo Dar)

1. The flow meter shall consist of three components: an electronics unit, sensor, and interconnecting cable. The sensor shall combine advanced radar velocity sensing technology with ultrasonic pulse echo level sensing to remotely measure open channel flow. Flow shall be calculated based on the Continuity Equation (Q = V x A), where Q = Flow, V = Average Velocity, and A = Area. The flow meter shall be of assured quality and provided by an ISO 9001:2000 Certified Manufacturer. The flow meter shall be equivalent to the Flo-Dar™ Sensor with FL-1500 Flo-Station, as manufactured by Hach.

2. The sensor shall consist of three transducers housed in a single polystyrene watertight enclosure. The sensor shall be of the non-contact type and be mounted above the flow surface. The three transducers shall be a digital Doppler radar for surface velocity, an ultrasonic pulse echo for fluid level, and a piezo-resistive pressure measurement for surcharge level. The radar beam shall transmit signals, which interact with the fluid and reflect back at a different frequency. These reflected signals shall be compared with the transmitted frequency, resulting in a frequency shift. The frequency shift shall provide an accurate measurement of the flow velocity. Fluid level shall be measured with an ultrasonic pulse echo transceiver by transmitting a sound wave to the fluid surface. The sensor shall accurately measure flows in circular and rectangular channels down to flow depths of Y. inch. A Piezo-resistive pressure sensor shall be used to measure the level of fluid above the sensor if a surcharge condition occurs. The complete flow meter/cable/transmitter installation shall meet NEC 504 requirements for

Page 10: ADDENDUM NUMBER 1 · 7. Refrigerator, lab refrigerator, ice maker, range, microwave, range hood, washing machine, and clothes dryer shall be selected by furnished by Owner and installed

13421 Page 2

intrinsically safe systems. The sensor shall be supplied with a rain cap for applications in outside, open channels exposed to weather.

3. The electronics shall consist of the following model:

Model FL-1500 Flow-Station with Display Includes (2) 4-20 mA Outputs and FS Data Software and Communications Cable The electronics will have a data storage capacity of 64K (16 cycles of velocity/level data). For electronics with display, there will be four lines of text display – Flow, Level, and Total – or any combination of any four channels containing data. Screens can be programmed to display alternate values. The electronics housing material shall be ABS plastic and is a NEMA 4-rated enclosure. Electronics operating temperature range shall be 14º Fahrenheit to 122º Fahrenheit with relative humidity non-condensing 10-90%. Storage temperature for electronics without display will be -40º Fahrenheit to 140º Fahrenheit. Storage temperature for electronics with display will be 4º Fahrenheit to 140º Fahrenheit.

4. The sensor cable shall have a submersible connection at the sensor end and pigtails at the monitor end to allow for sensor interchangeability. The flow meter shall be provided with a length of cable as required. Provide adequate cable length at meter end for removal.

5. Enclosure: Material: Polystyrene (JP68) Dimensions: 6.9” W x 16.65” L x 11.7” D (17.5 cm x 42.3 cm x 29.7 cm) Operating Temperature Range: 14ºF to 122ºF (-10ºC to 50ºC) Storage Temperature Range: -4ºF to 140ºF (-40ºC to 60ºC)

6. Sensor-Cable: Material: Polyurethane jacketed Standard Length: 30 feet

7. Velocity Measurement: Method: Radar Range: 0.75 to 20 ft./s (0.23 m/s to 6.10 m/s) Accuracy: ±0.5%; ±0.1 ft./s (±0.03 m/s)

8. Level Measurement: Method: Ultrasonic Operating Range: 0.25 to 60 in. (0.634 to 152.4 cm) Optional Operating Range: 0 (0 cm) to 224” (5.7M) with 18” dead band Temperature Compensated

9. Flow Measurement: Based on Continuity Equation. Accuracy: ±5.0% of reading typical where flow is in a channel with

uniform flow conditions and is not surcharged. 10. Data Storage: 164K (164K cycles of velocity/level data). 11. Local Terminal: USB@ 19.2K baud 12. Outputs:

Two 4-20 mA outputs, system-isolated, up to 6000 load for FLOW, LEVEL. 13. Contact Closure:

Dry contact closure with adjustable duration selectable for flow-proportional or alarm based on: FLOW; LEVEL; SURCHARGE LEVEL; TEMPERATURE; DC SUPPLY VOLTAGE; EACH SAMPLE; BAD SAMPLE; or ANALOG INPUT. )

14. Power Requirements: AC: 100-240 VAC, 47-63 Hz, 15 Watts (20 watts with display; backlight ON)

DC: 8 to 14.4 VDC, 15 watts Note: 180mA @ 12 VDC or 2.1 watts Flow-Station with Display (backlight off) with only (1) 4-20 mA output utilized.

15. Housing: Material: ABS Plastic, NEMA 40 Dimensions: 10.2” W x 9.3” H x 3.8” D (25.9 cm W x 23.6 cm H x 9.6 cm D) Weight: 5 lbs. Temperature Operating Range: 14ºF to 122ºF (-10ºC to 50ºC) Temperature Storage Range: Without Display: -40ºF to 140ºF (-40ºC to 60ºC) With Display: 4ºF to 140ºF (-20ºC to 60ºC)

16. Accessories: a. Additional sensor cable – maximum length is 500 feet total.

b. Sensor Mount Hardware (permanent installations): Includes

mounting frame and hardware to mount sensor. c. Stainless steel sun shield for outdoor applications
