Denominators

1/4 + 2/3
On this problem what you want to make the problem look not as hard to understand. You can do
this by looking at you denominator and drawing that many boxes then you color the numerators
in(1 and 2).
Finding the Common Denominator
On this problem what you what to do to find the common denominator is to look at the denominators(4 and 3). The you say in your head and think of all the multiplies of the two numbers. The number that are the same for both of
the numbers are 12’s. After that you multiply that numerators by 3 and by 4 and then you will get 3/12 and
4/12. The answer is 6/12. That fraction is the common denominator for the fractions 3/4 and 2/3’s.
1/4 -2/6
In these diagrams you can see that there denominators are 4 and 6. first you make a table with those numbers and then you will color in the
numerators (1 and 2).
Finding the Common Denominator
On this problem what you what to do to find the common denominator is to look at the denominators(4 and 6). The you say in your head and think of all the multiplies of the two numbers. The number that are the same for both of the numbers are 12’s. So then you have to multiply 3 to get to 12 so then the numerator is 9 then for1/4 the final fraction would be 9/12. For the fraction 2/6 you would
multiply 2 by 2 which is 4 and then the fraction is 4/12. Then you would take 9/12 and 4/12 and you would subtract the numerators(9 and 4) so then the final answer would be
5/12. That fraction is the common denominator for the fractions ¼ and 2/6.
