Additional Apply Your Skills, Word 2013 Lessons 1–5Preparing a Report with a Cover Letter

Note! This comprehensive project covers selected skills taught in Word 2013 Lessons 1–5.

In this project, you will act as an Administrative Assistant at Conway Training. A former employee has requested a pension estimate be sent to her. You start by creating a cover letter, then copy and paste the pension information into the letter. Pension materials are generated in a generic-looking report containing the employee’s information. The auto-generated report currently has no formatting; therefore, you must reformat it using features such as bullets, tables, page breaks, and heading styles that will make the information easier to understand.

1. Create a new document using the Single Spaced (Blank) template and type the following letter in Block Style, using AutoComplete to enter the date.

2. Insert a manual page break at the end of the document.

3. Save the document as AAYS-Retirement Estimate.

4. Minimize the document, but do not close it.

5. Open AAYS-Pension Estimate.

6. Select and copy the entire document.

7. Paste the selected contents into AAYS-Retirement Estimate at the top of page 2.

8. Follow these guidelines to format the headings on page 2 so they match those shown in the example on page 3 of this project:

Apply the Title style to the Pension Benefit Summary Estimate heading.

Apply a Heading 1 style to the following headings: Base Facts, Conway Training Employee Pension Program, and Pension Payment Methods.

Change the font size of the Base Facts heading to 18 points.

Modify the Heading 1 style to update all Heading 1 headings based on the new Base Facts heading format.

Apply a Heading 2 style to Notes on Payment Methods.

Close the Styles task pane.

9. Use these guidelines to format the content under the headings:

Convert the two tabbed sections under the Base Facts and Conway Training Employee Pension Program headings (starting with Commencement Date through Spouse Date of Birth) to two-column tables (leave the tables in their current locations).

Remove the borders from both tables.

Add bold and underline to Call to speak to an Employee Services Assistant immediately if: and then add bullets to the three lines under the heading.

Change the bullet style to checkmarks.

Replace all instances of pension with retirement.

Replace the word Assistant in the heading Call to speak to an Employee Services Assistant immediately if: with Representative.

10. Check the document for spelling and grammar errors, and make appropriate choices to fix.

11. Insert manual page breaks so each Heading 1 style begins on a new page.

12. Remove the page break above the Base Facts heading.

13. Follow these guidelines to format the table on this page as shown in the illustration on the next page of this project:

Split each row into three columns.

Add borders around all cells.

Adjust the column widths so all rows are single spaced, then distribute the last two columns evenly.

Add bold and shading (Blue, Accent 1, Lighter 80%) to the top row.

Right-align the amounts in the last two columns.
