How do I start The basic feature of EndNote is the library The library is where all your references are
stored for future use
Creating a new library
1 Start the EndNote program
2 Go to FileNew and create a new library
3 Name the library and click Save
Two files are created for each EndNote Library
ENL (library file)
Data folder for the library
Opening an existing library
1 Start the EndNote program
2 Select the file name to open and click OK
Note EndNote will automatically open the last EndNote Library accessed unless di-
rected otherwise
Importing Citations from PubMed 1 Open the appropriate EndNote Library
2 Select the citations you want to import
3 Click on Send to select Citation manager Then click on Create File
4 Your EndNote Library should open and the citations will automatically import into
EndNote

2 Click the Edit tab and select Preferences
3 Select Sync
4 Type in your EndNote Online email and password
5 Click Ok and then Ok again

2 Select Connections
3 Type Albany into the search box and click Apply
4 From results list select Albany Medical College Library
5 Click Download and follow the instructions located on the left side of the screen
Finding Full Text 1 Click on Edit then click on Preferences
2 Click on Find Full Textmdashmake sure the box for the PubMed linkout is checked
3 Click Apply
4 Select the citations you want to find full text for or have EndNote search for the full-
text of all the citations in your library
Note EndNote only searches 250 citations at a time for Full-Text
5 EndNote will automatically attach any article PDFs that it finds to the appropriate
reference in EndNote

How do I change the bibliographic style 1 From the Endnote Online ribbon click the down arrow where it says Style
2 Select from the drop down list or choose Select another style to choose appropriate
format
3 Click on Update Citations and Bibliography Citations will now display according to
the selected style

How do I start Register for EndNote Online at

Importing Citations from PubMed 1 Select the citations you want to import from PubMed
2 Click on Send to select File
3 Change Format to MEDLINE
4 Click Create File
5 Click the dropdown next to Save then save to desired location such as the Desktop
6 Rename file name if desired Save as a Text Document then click Save
7 Open EndNote Online
8 Select the Collect tab and Import References
9 In the Import References File box find the file you saved
10In the Import Option box choose PubMed (NLM) (if not shown use Other Filters to
find)
11In the To box choose the Group you wish to save your citations to
12Click Import
13Your citations will automatically import into your EndNote Online Library

Finding Full Text 1 Click on the AMC blue icon to go to the publishers site or request the citation through
another library
2 From the publishers site open the PDF and save to a desired location such as the
Desktop
3 Click on the paperclip under the citation and click on Attach Files
4 Browse to find your pdf and click Upload
5 Close the pop-up window after the PDF has been uploaded
6 The pdf of the article is now attached to the citation on EndNote Online

3 Select the Record Content you want from the dropdown option in the pop-up window
and click Send

3 A pop-up window will appear in the top left of the screen Enter the name of the new
group and click OK
4 After you name your group EndNote Online creates a group folder From the Unfiled
Group check the citations you want to move and select the appropriate group from the
dropdown box at the top of the screen
5 EndNote Online will automatically populate the Group with the citation

Match is a journal matching feature that suggests the top Web of Science journal candi-
dates based on the details of a manuscript Enter the manuscript title abstract and refer-
ences then click Find Journals A list of matched journals and their impact factor scores
will appear

Modifying a bibliographic style wonrsquot change the original style It will only create a
personalized copy henceforth titled lsquoldquoStyle typerdquo copyrsquo
Remember before any updates to back up both your EndNote Library and any up-
datedmodified styles
