Adele – Someone Like You.

Brand Image Natalie Goode.

I am going to analyse the music video ‘Adele – Someone Like You’ as it belongs to our artist case study. I will also be looking at her album covers aswell to explain what her brand image is.

• As this song is serious, heartfelt and slow with a meaning because it is by a singer/song writer it is a very simple music video. The video links well to the lyrics.

• In the video Adele just walking down the street and her facial expressions shows that she is thinking about her problem which she is singing about.

• The audience connect well with the singer/song writer as there is plenty of close ups and extreme closes ups of Adele’s eyes and face. Adele also using direct address with the audience, staring straight into the camera, the audience such as women can understand what she is going through.

• The video is in the black and white effect throughout all to make it be serious and sophisticated, as it isn’t busy it is just focused on her this makes the audience want to know what she is going through .

• Adele body language on her video is very sad and lonely to match with the slow paced song and editing. Such as she has her hands in her pockets throughout it and there are shots of her looking away from the camera, over the bridge and onto the river. There is also a long shot of her walking away from the camera.

• Adele has been dressed in the dull colour of black as it connects with the effect of black and white for the video, but to also once again emphasise just how sad she is. And because the colour black does represent this such as it being worn at funerals it works for how she is feeling, heartbroken.

Adele has brought out two albums, the first called 19 and the second called 21 which she released when she was 19 and 21. This has made Adele an extremely individual artist writing about her lovers at that time when she was that age. Her music has a completely unique style compared to other singer/song writers because the lyrics to the song are all about her love and heartbreaks. The album covers represent this for both and push the ideologies towards the audience. It can be shown by the close ups on the covers of her face and how Adele looks away from the camera in a lonely, sad way. As both album covers are very similar, they are still telling a story to the audience that she from when she was 19 to 21, she has now hit the next part of her journey in love.
