First-Party Cookies

Web cookies are key components of most ad-serving and analytics solutions. They are small

files placed on a user's computer so that later the user can be identified by the publisher or

ad-serving system. There are two types of cookies used on the internet:

Adform First-Party Cookies

Adform can help advertisers to keep track of

the user's activities by employing first-party

cookies with third-party analytics. All that

users have to do to enable first-party cookies

is mark one checkbox in the Adform system.

This allows cookies to be written to a user's

computer from the website they are visiting

and enables Adform to register clicks and

conversions.

When Adform users choose to enable first-

party cookies, third-party cookies are still

active and are used as the main option, but in

situations when placing a third-party cookie

on the user's computer is not possible (e.g. if

a user's browser does not allow third-party

cookies to be written) first-party cookies are

used as an alternative.

Adform first-party cookies can help tracking users with limited cookie placement

rules at the same time greatly increasing user privacy and anonymity.

First-party cookies:

these are issued by the web site that the user visits. E.g. if a user visits www.website.com , a

cookie from this website is placed on the user's computer.

Third-party cookies:

these cookies come from a provider other than the website a user visits. E.g. if a user visits

www.website.com, which is tracked using a www.analytics.com service, a cookie from

analytics.com system is placed on the user's computer.

While debates over privacy and anonymity issues concerning digital advertisement are

gaining momentum, these discussions are mainly related to third-party cookies and their

usage.
