I was messing around with my User folder late at night trying to move it back to a separate drive after

the upgrade to Win7. Unfortunately I messed up and now the Administrative Tools folder is empty

when I try to access it from the start menu.

However, they are still available from Start > Run: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start

Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools

It's just the shortcut on the Start Menu that's messed up.

I like Windows 7 a lot but it's a pity that the moving back and forth of the User folder really messed

things up for me. I got tired and accidentally deleted the wrong user folder.

Hi,

If System Restore does not work, try copying the shortcuts to the correct location:

Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools folder and

copy the shortcuts to %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start

Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools folder.

If the issue persists, try creating new account as below:

Create a new user account

1. Click the Start Button, type User Accounts in the start search pane and press Enter.

2. Click Manage use accounts.

3. Click Create a new account, and type the name.

4. Choose account type as Computer administrator.

5. Click Create Account.

6. Log off and log on with the new account.

I have the same problem - Administrative Tools folder is reported empty when clicking from the

Sartup column. But when I look for it in the Appdata folder as you specified, it is also not there.

Tried making another account, but Windows 7 will not let me log on, saying the rpofile is in error.

So it must be really lost, not hidden. How do I restore it? Will doing a system restore undo all

installations and updates (of which there were many during this clean install).

Look at what they said in the order they said it ;) System Restore first, then if that doesn't work,

follow the other methods

I noticed your post was several months ago, but this may still be helpful. I got Windows 7 about

two weeks ago, so I'm still getting used to it. I had the same problem, but could not find any

reasonable solutions online. The current replies in this thread just create an empty folder, not the

actual program shortcuts. So.......

Browse to your system files folder. The default is "C:\Windows\System32". Find all Microsoft

Common Console Documents - its easier if you just sort by type. Then create shortcuts of

those.....and done! Plus there are some extra tools which are not displayed by default.

If you have similar problems again, right click on a similar program or file to the one you are missing

and browse to its location. Worth a shot.

I do not had The file Server Manager.lnk, I found the file %windir%\\System32\OptionalFeatures.exe,

then copy and "paste as shorcut" in the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start

Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools, then rename as "Server Manager"

I found the program running the links (*.lnk) what are in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start

Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools Could be more files, I have these

ED_LG Thanks for this list a roque virus blew mine away.

You had a couple that i could not find that's normal I guess I wonder if somebody else had another

list with a few other things on it
