ADMISSION OF STUDENTS TO DIPLOMA LEVEL COURSES (NVQ 5/6) CONDUCTED AT COLLEGES OF TECHNOLOGY/ TECHNICAL COLLEGES– 2021

APPLICATIONS are invited from eligible applicants for courses scheduled to be conducted in Colleges of

Technology/ Technical Colleges in the year 2021 as per this Gazette Notification. Students for admission will be

selected from among the applicants according to the qualifications and merit order.

2. The prospective candidates are advised to prepare their own applications on an A4 sheet of paper in accordance

with the “Specimen Application Form” given in this notification. Duly completed applications should be sent

under Registered Cover to reach the Director / Principal of the respective College of Technology / Technical

College to which admission is sought, on or before 29.01.2021. Applications can also be handed over to the Career Guidance Unit of the respective college. Applicants are advised NOT to submit applications to this

Department or to any officer’s official or personal addresses.

Also, all details in this connection are published in the website www.dtet.gov.lk and applications can be submitted

through this website too.

3. Mention the name of the course applied for together with the course code on the top left hand corner of the

envelope enclosing the application.

E.g. :- National Diploma in Construction Technology - ETB 05

4. Applications received after the closing date will be considered only if the vacancies are available in the

course.

5. On the job training (OJT) is compulsory for all full time courses of NVQ level 5 and 6.

6. All Diploma level courses are conducted only in English medium. An English language module is included

as a supporting subject.

7. Qualifications required for courses and Colleges of Technology/Technical colleges the courses conducted

are mentioned in the list of courses in this notice and the attention of all candidates is drawn to that. Requests

made to change the college or course subsequently will not be taken into consideration.

8. All full-time day courses will be conducted free of charge.

9. Fees will be charged in the following manner from all those enroll in Part time and Evening Courses.

i. Part time/evening courses of more than one year duration - Rs.5,000/= per year

ii. Part time/ evening courses of six months to one year duration - Rs.3,000/= per course.

iii. Part-time/evening short-term courses of less than six months duration - Rs.2,000/- per course.

10. A fee of Rs.500/= will be levied by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) from the

students who sit for the TVEC common examination associated with the issue of NVQ certificate.

11. Attention of all applicants is drawn to the Schedule of Courses appended at the end of this notification,

which indicates the nature of courses, eligibility requirements for each course, the colleges at which the

courses are conducted and medium of instruction. The postal addresses and contact telephone numbers of

Colleges of Technology / Technical Colleges where the courses would be conducted are shown in the list of

Colleges of Technology / Technical Colleges.

12. An applicant seeking admission to follow a course in these colleges should:-

(i) be of excellent moral character;

(ii) be a citizen of Sri Lanka;

(iii) have fulfilled all the admission qualifications as per the Gazette notification.

13. Qualified persons will be selected on the results of an aptitude test and an interview, in order to verify the

required subject knowledge and communication skills in English.

14. Any document or copies thereof should not be submitted along with the application. Those applicants

who fail to produce the necessary and acceptable documents to prove their eligibility at the interview will be

deemed disqualified.

15. Following additional benefits and privileges are available for selected students in full time courses:

(i) Students of full time / day courses will be paid a stipend of Rs.50/= per day subject to a Maximum of Rs.1,000/= per month, based on the attendance to the classes and the family income.

(ii) An annual bursary of Rs.2,500/= will be paid to full time / day course students selected from low income families.

(iii) If required, students of full time/ day courses can obtain concessionary season

tickets for the train or SLTB buses.

16. The applicant is held entirely responsible for the authenticity of his/her documents. applicants who submit

documents that have been tampered with or forged or not proved in fact will be severely dealt with.

17. If the number of students registered for second and/or third year of a course is not sufficient to continue

the course in that college, those students will be transferred to the nearest college that particular course is

being conducted.

18. Those that pass NVQ Level 4 (day / weekend) courses and have one year work experience in the relevant

field and those who have passed G.C.E. (A/L) in relevant streams are eligible to follow NVQ Level 5 courses

and those who pass NVQ Level 5 courses have access to proceed to follow Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech)

degree at UNIVOTEC.

20. Conducting all courses or several courses published in this gazette notification for the academic year 2021

in Colleges of Technology / Technical Colleges is solely subjected to the discretion of the Director General of
