Workspaces are a great way to personalize the tools and panels that surround the opened program window. This could be a simple way to work on projects in a fast and productive way.

Typography

This workspace is great for adding text to your project. Here, you will have all the text manipulation tools in the panels where you can quickly access them. This will give you panels that will allow you to view your Pages, adjust the Characters of your text, add variations to Paragraphs and alter the Margins of your page.

Book

This workspace is best for creating and printing a book. This will give you helpful panels that will allow you to view your Pages, add smart objects, and edit paragraph styles.

Digital Publishing

This is a workspcae set for editing and making fi nal desicions on your project. This is helpful in polishing your project to perpare it for the public eye. This will give you helpful panels that will allow you to use Animations, add other Media and Hyperlinks, and make your document interactive for the Web.

When you feel comfortable with Photoshop and know the tools that you need. Creating your own workspace that best fi ts you can be a quick and productive way of getting projects done. You can change the tool bar, add/remove work panels (e.g. History, color panel, Layers panel), and even change the hotkeys (shortcuts) on your keyboard.

To Crop in an image simply drag in any of the frame controls.

If your images look pixelated turn on High Quality Display:

View>Display Performance>High Quality Display

Use the Align tool to line up, distribute or space objects. Choose what to base the alignment on with the Align To option.

Adding ImagesFile>Place

Add photos or graphics by using the Place option in InDesign. Choose your fi le from the computer and then click anywhere on the page.

Instead of clicking the photo in place you can also drag it into being. This makes it a specifi c size right away.

Clicking once on the image will select the frame of the image. The frame controls what part of the image is seen.

Double clicking, or clicking the circle in the middle will select the image itself.

If you drag while the image is selected the frame will not move.

To scale the photo and the frame at the same time use ⌘⇧ and scale from a corner.

Window>Color Window>Stroke

There are multiple ways to utilize Color and alter Stroke in InDesign. Most can be found under Window>Color. You can mix your own colors and create gradients with the gradient tools.

Double click the fi ll or stroke icon to view the Color Picker.

The Stroke is the outline around an object or text.

The fi ll and stroke icons are in the toolbar and dock.

Clicking the arrow to the right of the stroke or fi ll opens the drop down menu

Swatches is where you can save colors and create color sets.

Use the Gradient Swatch Tool and the Gradient Feather Tool to create gradients. The Gradient Feather Tool will create a transparent gradient.

Picas are the unit of measurement used in design. There are 6 picas to an inch. To change the unit of measurement to inches or otherwise:

To add text to your design select the Type Tool in the toolbar and drag a text box to the desired size. To alter the size of the box use the selection tool.

The Paragraph window allows you to choose text alignment and add indents and drop caps.To unhyphenate uncheck the Hyphenate box. Additional text options can be found in the dock:

The Links panel shows you where the fi les placed in your document are located. Right click on a fi le name and choose Relink to update the fi le location.

When you see a red question mark next to a fi le name, you must relink the broken link.
