This is something that will fill all your friends with jealousy and that is exactly our intention ....

ADRENALINE winter

Page 2: Adrenaline 2015

Dear Competitor friends,

It appears to me that the organizers of the Winter Trial are trying to find the most challenging roads in Europe for you. This time you even have to travel up north, close to the polar circle were the roads are guaranteed 100% covered with Winter Trial snow. It must be a dream to drive the roads were so many rally champions lived and had their education in the backyard. Not how to be the best in school, but how to be faster on gravel snow or ice than the neighbours and these snow shy Europeans.

I envy you, being able to play around on these holly rally roads. Again I will be there to wave you out, wish you success and have a week full of excitement, fun and camaraderie. By now you should understand that I am a real fan of you, your sport and your cars and again I am here with a full agenda ahead of me.But having said that, just keep pushing me and one day I will be there.

Have a wonderful Winter Trial and I look forward to meet you at the start in Sunvolden.

The 15th Winter Trial.

Fifteen years ago the idea was to organise one winter Trial and we did, without knowing that now 15 years later we are still organising this wonderful event.

This is spite of the fct that authorities, landowners and all those organisations which we need so badly, are making things a little bit more complicated year after year. In fact to a point where you are asking yourselves is it worth all this trouble.Fortunately we have wonderful friends helping us out on knocking on doors of land owners asking for permission to ruin there front door roads , to plough the snow just in time for us to pass. Thank you Tom Granli, thank you Jan Meester and thank you Jonas Oh-man for fighting burocracy.Just to give you an example, we need to hand in our route 6 months in advance, than it goes silent and only weeks before the event we do get (or not) the permissions. Are we discouraged, no we are not. As long as it possible to en-joy our hobby we will do so and in fact we go even further. Some 10 years ago I had a dream. The dream was about a new concept that had crossed my mind when I met again with an old rally friend who had been active with both airplanes and rally cars. The old friend was Rob Koch, who acted as the competition team manager and the DAF Londen to Sydney team in 1968. He used a Dakota to move the spare parts and mechanics to the various halts along the route. In the early seventies I supplied the team with light weight rally wheels. We were than also both members of the same flying club in Budel and when we met again at the Concours d’élé-gance at Paleis het Loo, I discussed this innovative idea with him.He also saw the potential and we worked out a formula but thought it to be impossible. So we left it.It was not until 2011 that I met classic car enthusiast Gerard van Pelt, and told him about my crazy plans. I changed the formula and was now sure that it should be possible, but to realize this dream I had to be certain that we would be able to find enough airplanes to make it happen. However, he asked me if I was sure that I could find enough pre war cars willing to participate, because airplanes was not a pro-blem he said! What do you think, we found the planes, the cars, the pilots and the navigators and the Great Race was born. Come and join us for the second running in June 2015 at Teuge airport near Apeldoorn.

Mijn naam is Rob Kamphues. Geschatte kosten: 25.000 euro.

Mijn naam is Rob Kamphues.

HARM LAMBERIGTSADRENALINE

Cave had his first works-drive as a navigator in 1954, in an MG Magnette for the soon-to-be-famous BMC Rally team. He would go on to co-drive John Sprinzel in various Sprites and to campaign TR4s and Rover 3 litres on rallies such as Monte Carlo, the Alpine and Liege-Sofia-Liege, as well as taking BMC Special Tuning’s 1800 Landcrab on the London to Mexico Wor-ld Cup Rally. Now in his 80s, he’s still rallying, making him one of the oldest – if not the oldest – continuous competitor in motorsport.

Q: WELKE ANDERE HOBBY’S ZIJN ER NOG VERDER?A: Sport in het algemeen…

TON RABELING

It was a giant Eland crossing the road that forced us in the ditch, honest. It was not my driving!

TON RABELING

It was a giant Eland crossing the road that forced us in the ditch, honest. It was not my driving!

Another sad los is the Alvis from John Rowe. The climb up to the top of the Col d’ Iseran was just a col to much. The Alvis failed to proceed and needs to see a doc-tor. Speaking about doctors, Pit Lindner is playing dr Rossi. He has ordered a pharmacy to bring the whole stock of immodium and distributing this to his fellow competitors, trying to poison them as a last trick to beat the Mc Allisters.

Like a number of other competitors they are attacked by an invisible enemy, called virus. Both leaders in Vintge and Trial class did not make to many mistakes on the last day of the rally and it looks that the cards have been shuffeled. Few more hours and the win-ners will be known.

The final day is the Wajer and Wajer Grand Prix. A day out with one of the Osprey boats was the much appreciated pri-ze won by Tom Calanan.

At Bora Bora beach in Saint Tropez the prize giving party was more than another special occasion presented by BRM in the spirits of the Voiles de Saint Tropez. Worlds biggest Classic sailing race.

Our sponsor Wajer and Wajer had prepared a special welco-me. Below one of the five speed boats that transported all crews to and from the prize giving party.

BEACH TO BRIDGELIBERATION RALLY

incapable of importing the breath-taking beauty of the scenery. Luc and Gratia de Vos where ever so filled with joy after

setting the fasted time of the day twice on the little kart track,

Beach to Bridge Liberation Rally, 70 years after the Dutch liberation and 71 years after the landing on the Normandy Beaches, Classic Events takes you on a journey form these Beaches to “The Bridge” in Arnhem. This cultural and historic rally is open to all who enter with a classic car.

ROUTEWe have created a tour for you in the footsteps of the great English and Ameri-can Generals on their way to the liberation of Europe and we will visit a number of highlights on this route.

From the start at the Pegasus bridge in Ouistreham, following the coastline to the Pillboxes at Arromanches, where we can still see the German canons, we make our way to Chartres via the Faillaise Pocket. From Chartres we follow the “Voie de la Liberté”, the route that General Patton followed to Bastogne and the Battle of Via Reims, our next overnight halt, where we will have our dinner in one of the famous Cham-pagne caves beneath the city, we continue our way past the Maginot lines to Bastogne for a visit to the magnificent museum about the Battle of the Bulge. Our next overnight halt will be in Marche en Famenne, just north of Bastogne.Passing through the Ardennes we make our way to The Netherlands via Trois Ponts and Stavelot to a small town called Mesch, the first town in The Netherlands to be liberated by the Americans to our final overnight Halt in Vaals. From here we head up to Best and the “Wings of Liberation” museum. On the grounds of this former military comlex we will have a nice driving test to sharpen the senses for our inal run over “hells Highway”. The road to Arnhem and Operation Market Garden. We finish our 5 day journey on the John Frost Bridge to have our prize giving in the wine cellars of Robbers and van der Hoogen Wine sellers.

ETOSHA NATIONAL PARKNamibia and Etosha National Park is an unspoiled safari and adventure destination. There are plenty of parks and places with great opportunities to watch the wildlife and “The Big Five”.Namibia’s bountiful sunshine, abundant wildlife, scenic beauty and rich diversity of geological phenomena make the country a sought-after tourist destination to which visitors return again and again. Additional plus points are the friendliness and cultural diversity of its people, a well-developed infrastructure and an exten-sive choice of parks, resorts and accommodation. The latter range from five-star luxury hotels to upmarket guest lodges in the quiet seclusion of the bush.

VICTORIA FALLSVictoria Falls, so named by the 19th century (Scottish!) explorer Dr David Livingstone, is one of the Seven Na-tural Wonders of the World. He saw the falls for the first time in 1855 and said “scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight”. The spray rising above the falls has given them its local name “The Smoke that Thunders”. The falls are almost too beautiful to paint. The width is 1.6 kilometres and the height up to 108 metres, twice the size of The Niagara Falls. A truly magnificent marvel of nature.

CAPETOWNVisit Table Mountain overlooking Capetown. Eye to eye with the ocean’s gentle giants. South Africa prides itself on the best land-based whale-watching in the world. Watching whales in their natural environmnent is an overwhelming experience of nature at its most glorious, making a memory to last a lifetime.

THE ROUTEThe 9,000 kilometre route has been carefully selected and will take you over great asphalt roads as well as smooth gravel, to places where the tourists never go. Our motto “the best available” also goes for the careful-ly selected hotels, lodges and guest houses, but bear in mind that we also seek the best available routes, which are not always where the fairy-tale hotels can be found. As capacity is limited, we can only take 25 crews for this adventure.

SERVICEExperienced Service Crews will follow the rally to make sure that nobody gets stranded. They are there to get you going again when you are stuck, not to do your daily maintenance.

ENTRIESThe Safari Rally is by invitation only. With the enclosed form you may apply to compete. Note that there is a limit on the number of crews that we can invite. Within four weeks of receipt of your application form you will be notified if you are invited. For information contact: [email protected] + 31578 561115

WINGS WHEELS AND GOGGLES FILLED US WITH JOY, EXCITEMENT AND SATISFACTION

Our team has organized as many as wel over 75 even-ts in the past 15 years. We look back with a great smi-le and warm memories on what we have done so far. But there is one event that stands out from the crowd, Wing Wheels and Goggles.

Drinks are already served so the Party can begin. Make sure

you will be part of it.

An old dream of Bart Rietbergen came true when 40 classic planes and the same number of prewar cars gathered at Teuge airport in 2013. During the lunch break a sensational air show was presented to the crowds and the participants of the show. This first running of Wings Wheels and Goggles filled us with joy, excitement and satisfaction. What an event it was. So all in all a very good reason to do it again and as always we like it to be bigger and better where possible.

HOW DOES THE GREAT RACE WORK?We team up a plane and a prewar car, this is - the team. The team will receive a few tasks. The Car has to visit 10 exact marker points at an exact given time. You may not be late or early. The route is given on a map. The Plane has to visit 10 Marker points and fly within a 50 mtr radius over it in a dedicated from and to direction at a given altitude. The route is given by GPS points. To late or early is a penalty and to high or to low is also a penalty. The times and altitudes will be recorded by our logger system. The difference between ideal and actual is the

penalty and the team with lowest penalty wins. On Saturday we will fly/drive 2 legs and we drive/fly 1 leg on Sunday. In one of the three legs the navigator will have to swop his place with his team mate. So codriver from the car goes into the plane and vice versa.

Have fun.The organizing team.
