ADRIATIC ODYSSEYVenice to Catania Aboard Sea Cloud II
With Harvard Study Leader Lino PertileOctober 4–12, 2020
The Adriatic’s gorgeous coastlines have been home to ancient Greeks and Romans as well as Byzantines and Venetians. Embark Sea Cloud II to uncover a remarkable confluence of historic cultures. Under the billowing sails of this luxurious three-masted ship, travel to timeless towns and archaeological sites in Italy, Croatia, and fascinating but little-visited Montenegro and Albania.
Starting in the lustrous canals of Venice, journey to Ravenna, former capital of the Western Roman Empire, to marvel at the 5th- and 6th-century mosaics of its early Christian churches and the elegant Mausoleum of Galla Placidia. Across the Adriatic in the former Roman province of Dalmatia, call at Split, Croatia, to explore the ruined 4th-century palace of the emperor Diocletian. In nearby Trogir, discover its Hellenistic street layout, 15th-century castle, and Renaissance and Baroque churches. In the stunning walled city of Dubrovnik, highlights include exquisite manuscripts and paintings in its medieval monasteries.
In Montenegro and Albania, enjoy access to often-overlooked wonders. Discover the well-preserved medieval fortified city of Kotor and the ancient Albanian site of Butrint, whose Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Venetian rulers have left indelible marks. Then, delight in a beautiful day at sea as you cruise to Catania, Sicily. An optional prelude to further explore Venice is available, while a postlude in the charming hilltop town of Taormina, Sicily is also offered.
Why not spend another week savoring the pleasures of Sea Cloud II? When you book this program and also join “Sicily by Sail: Catania to Naples Aboard Sea Cloud II” from October 11 to 19, receive a special savings of $1,250 per person, per cruise.
