The National Adult Honor Society began in 1991 by Lloyd Weaver, an
Adult Education educator. Mr. Weaver wanted to provide meaningful
recognition deserving adult students. The mission of the National Adult
Education Honor Society is to provide meaningful recognition to deserv-
ing adult education students, to improve student employment opportuni-
ties, to develop student ambassadors for local adult education programs
and to create adult education awareness with school administrators and
state legislators.
The mission of the National Adult Education Honor Society is to provide
meaningful recognition to deserving adult education students, to improve
student employment opportunities, to develop student ambassadors for
local adult education programs, and to create adult education awareness
with school administrators and state legislators.
To qualify for NAEHS membership, adult education students must
demonstrate dependable attendance; a cooperative attitude; and signifi-
cant work ethic. Adult Education teachers nominated and selected quali-
fied candidates from more than 1000 students currently earning a high
school equivalency certificate or high school diploma or learning English
as a Second Language.
This year, thirty Horry County Adult Education students were inducted
into the National Adult Education Honor Society during two induction
ceremonies on May 14 and May 16.
Each honoree committed to sharing with their communities what adult
education has meant to them and to encourage family and friends to take
advantage of local adult education program offerings. When inducted,
each honoree receives an NAEHS certificate and gold, black and white
lapel pin.

“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest. ~Benjamin Franklin
Horry County Schools Adult Education
has worked tirelessly to meet the needs of
all Horry County communities. One com-
munity reached out to us and asked for
our help!
Citizens in North Myrtle Beach contacted
us and told us about the need for ESL
classes in the community because of the
lack of transportation and the distance to
the Myrtle Beach and Conway locations.
What did we do? We partnered with
Ocean Drive Elementary to bring Adult
ESL classes to the North Myrtle Beach
area!
Classes started January 22 and continued
through the middle of May. We are served
32 ESL students! Classes were held on
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. to
7:45 p.m.
A special thanks goes to Ms. Renea
Fowler, Principal at Ocean Drive
Elementary, for welcoming us into their
school so that we may help the adults in
the area.
