colourful language with a great turn of phrase. Participants will also learn the most important dates in Irish history and the local history of Dingle displayed in monuments, buildings,churches, and topography.

The group will visit some of the best examples of monuments in the whole of Ireland, particularly those of the Early Medieval Period and the artifacts associated with them.

Day 6: Irish Anthropology Day: Dingle has a rich anthropological history, and participants will be introduced to stories and myths associated with the area. Topics will include stories and myths surrounding the most famous Irish saints, seasonal traditions, and the Irish calendar. Dingle’s experience during the Famine will also be covered. Free afternoon or participate in one of the

package activities

Day 7: Irish Spirituality Day: Participants will get a glimpse of the faith and vision of the first people in Ireland, from 6,000 years ago to early Celtic Christianity. They saw little distinction between the material and spiritual world, referred to as “thin places.” Topics include Celtic spirituality, holy wells, pilgrimages, prayer, poetry, myths and legends, hospitality, and love of nature and each other.

Day 8: Irish Music Day: Music is synonymous with Ireland, and Dingle is a hotspot of Irish traditional music, where the sound of

music can be heard from every pub. The group will get an insight into Irish traditional music and song from Aoife Granville, a local musician. The group will learn about key Irish musicians, and the instruments they play. Group members will be free to play and sing along.

Day 9: Departure from Dingle. Airport transfer available to Shannon Airport for early morning flight.

Program Providers

The Center for Irish Cultural Studies at Sacred Heart University (SHU) was established in 1996. It’s aim is to give students the opportunity to study abroad in Dingle, Ireland. SHU students have the option to study in Dingle for a short term program or for the full semester.

The success of these programs has led to the establishment of the Minor degree in Irish Studies in 2011. This Minor will allow SHU students an opportunity for an in-depth interdisciplinary study of Irish and Celtic culture, history, language, literature, music, politics, and society.

The Center for Irish Cultural Studies operates its program in Ireland through a partnership with the Díseart Center of Irish Spirituality and Culture. Located in Dingle, Díseart strives to promote research, courses and cultural activities in all areas of Irish Spirituality and

Celtic Culture including theology, language, literature, art, laws, folklore, values, spirituality, history, music, archaeology and customs.

Classes will be held in a beautiful neo-Gothic convent building which houses the famous Harry Clarke Stained Glass windows, new addition to the building includes a mural on the life of Nano Nagle foundress of the Presentation Order and the only Fresco in Ireland which depicts the Last Supper.
