What is an Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner? An Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (A-GNP) Primary Care is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who provides care in ambulatory and long-term care settings. While focusing on health promotion and disease prevention, A-GNPs acquire advanced skills in health assessment, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic health problems. A-GNPs in primary care deliver comprehensive care to young, middle, and older adults in a variety of settings with an emphasis on outpatient care. What services do NPs provide? Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests Diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions such as infections, injuries, mental health problems, hypertension, and diabetes Coordinate patients’ overall health care Teach/coach patients for healthier lifestyle management Do you have: A willingness to function in an autonomous nursing role? Completion of a baccalaureate degree program with an NLNAC or CCNE accredited major in nursing from a regionally accredited institution or the equivalent, as determined by the Department of Nursing Faculty GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher Current RN licensure in Pennsylvania Successful completion of undergraduate statistics, physical assessment, and nursing research courses One year of relevant nursing practice Interview with Graduate Admissions Committee The YCP Graduate Programs in Nursing has four tracks: Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Primary Care (A-GNP) two or three year program Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Primary Care (A-GNP) Post-Master’s Certificate Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist education focus (CNS/Ed) Nurse Anesthetist Nurse Educator (NE) Application deadline is March 1 of each year for fall enrollment of the Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Track.
