Join us for the culmination of our annual one book, one community read. Katie Fallon is a Penn State Almuna and also a founder of the Avian Conservation Center of
Appalachia, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving wild birds through research, education, and rehabilitation. Fallon will visit the Centre Region courtesy of Penn State University’s English Department and the Mary E. Rolling Reading series. She will discuss her book as well as her work in environmental literature. Book sales and signing to follow

Join researchers from the College of Information Sciences and Technology as they facilitate a lively discussion about water and water data in the community. The researchers, guided by the Director of the Center for Human-Computer Interaction, Dr. Jack Carroll, have been collaborating with local groups interested and engaged with the issue of water quality in the Spring Creek Watershed to increase visibility and access to water quality data in the broader community.Expect a lively discussion about water and water data and brainstorming activities about how to make water data available and accessible to the community.

Join Centre County Reads at Shaver’s Creek to bring back “Meet the Creek,” the center’s weekend animal program, in the newly constructed raptor center. The Rock Ethics Institute’s 2019 Richard D. Lippin Lecture in Ethics, in partnership with the Student Programming Association Distinguished Speaker Series, will feature award-winning author and lawyer Bryan Stevenson. Stevenson is one of the leading Civil Rights voices alive today and the author of the New York Times bestseller Just Mercy. Schlow will host book club discussions in January and book signings will follow the lecture.
This event is sponsored by the Penn State Rock Ethics Institute, Student Programming Association, World Campus, McCourtney Institute for Democracy, and Center for Character, Conscience, and Public Purpose.
