THE LIGHT THAT SHINES ON THE MOUNTAIN.There are occasions when I’m out on foot patrol and turn a corner, or get to the top of a hill and suddenlyeverything opens up, the houses and hedges recede and you see what folk have been seeing for millennia. It never fails to take my breath away. Most shifts I like to walk over to Plas Madoc from the bottom of Cefnand the views when you climb up to Cae Coch and Cae Glo are just beautiful. I had family that lived uphere in the 50s and I must admit I am envious of them having grown up in such a place.I’m convinced that walking is good for the soul, it certainly helps my mind and body walking to Plas Madocand back most shifts. If it’s been busy I have the walk back to the station to reflect and quietly start toproblem solve, and if things at home have been hectic then I have the walk up to the estate to get myself inthe zone.Occasionally I get caught out in a downpour and end up back in the Police Station soaked to the skin hav-ing to dry off with a steaming hot brew and cwtching up to the radiator, but touch wood I’ve been prettylucky so far…famous last words! After a rainstorm the light over the Fron or Nantyr looking from top of Cefn is spectacular, the way itwashes over the landscape like a baptism of colour after the dour weather. I sometimes feel that light onthe mountain might just be shining on me because I work in such a wonderful place.

REMEMBERING LOVED ONES, WITH CEFNMAWR CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIPWe’ve been making our plans for the comingseasons with events to help our community toremember loved ones with thanksgiving inNovember and celebrate the real meaning ofChristmas in December. Admission to all our eventsis FREE - including the food we serve. As well as running ‘The Meeting Place’CaféChurch on the first Sunday of every month atthe CRNCA Centre on Bro Gwilym, our Fellowshiphas a Social every month at the Centre, to whichwe invite our contacts in the community - peoplelike you! Sometimes these Socials have aspecial focus like the Harvest Supper we heldearlier this month with hot food, fun and fellowshipwhich was very well attended. On 16th. November our special focus is onThanksgiving for loved ones we have lost. Asusual, the Social will start at 7.00pm and see usgather around tables to share some finger food andgood conversation over a cuppa. Then about8.00pm we will pause for a 10-15 minute period ofreflection when we can remember loved ones whoare no longer with us, thank God for their lives andlove, and seek God’s help for any who are stillgrieving their loss. We hope that this will be ablessing to many in our community, whether theirbereavement is recent or some time ago but still acause of sorrow in their lives today. We are also pleased that members of the CefnMawr Christian Fellowship can join with manyother local people at the Remembrance DayService at the Cefn War Memorial to lay a wreathin honour of all those who have made the finalsacrifice for the sake of our peace. All too soon it will be the Christmas season andonce again we are planning a Community CarolService open to all in the area - on Thursday14th. December at 7.00pm - at the CRNCACentre. It’s the night in the month when we wouldusually have a Social so this year we’re goingto try running it café-style - so why not join us forour Community Carols Café Experience!where you can sing your favourite carols whilstenjoying some Christmas food treats and sippinga glass of mulled “wine” - or just a tea or coffee, ifyou prefer. We’ll be reflecting on ChristmasJourneys and having a fun celebration of God’sspecial Christmas gift.If you can’t make it to this Carol Café Experience, then you’re most welcome to join us at ourChristmas CaféChurch at 10.30am on Sunday3rd. YSGOL ACREFAIR NEWSWe have had a brilliant start to thenew Term in Ysgol Acrefair. All ofthe children have settled into thenew classes beautifully and havealready been very busy with theirlearning! Some of our new topicsinclude ‘World War 2’, ‘Explorers’and ‘Marvellous me’. In our Year 5class we have been learning about‘Building our Learning Powers’,these are the skills that help us tobe brilliant learners whatever thelesson or the challenge that we face. We enjoyed‘Famous Artist’ day during which each classstudied different artists from around Wales andthe world. Our Reception class studiedKandinsky’s work with circles and they read thestory ‘The Dot’ in which a little boy learns that the

hardest part of his work is just putting pen to paper, once he has the confidenceto do this then his work just gets better and better! At the end of September the whole school took part in Healthy Living Day. Year’s4 and 5 worked together to explore the ‘balanced food plate’ and how each typeof food helps our body. We looked at food labels and found out how to tell justwhat our food contains and we investigated the amount of sugar that is hidden insome of the ‘healthy’ snacks that we eat; we measured how much sugar was in

these foods in grams and were shockedto see just how much there was!CEFN COMMUNITY IN BLOOM 2017 continued from page 2

YSGOL RUABON NEWSYsgol Rhiwabon Open Evening was a greatsuccess. The level of primary school ageparents experiencing the Rhiwabonatmosphere was very high & reflects theleading transition activities carried out by the school, and all its local primary colleagues. The highlights ofthe evening were the numerous Grandparents whowere being shown around the school by new Year 6pupils eager to show what they had done, andwhere they had been, during their transition days.Headteacher, Mrs Ferron-Evans, a former pupil ofthe school was keen to emphasise the values oftradition, hard work, and community links that drivethe work within the school to continue to deliverimprovements. These have led to record GCSEresults again this summer. Speaking later, she said:‘I am really pleased with how our Open Eveningwent. The level of interest shown in our school hasbeen fantastic and I now look forward to meeting ournew intake again. The website and app. reflect thehistoric links we have to the area and I’ve used thisto show our strong community focus, and howsuccessful our students have been over time. I wasdelighted to be able to speak to so many parentsand grandparents during the evening; it really was apleasure and I would like to thank everyone for theirextremely positive comments on the school.”

In a recent history lesson with Mrs V Wright-Davies,Year 7DN were able to use the skills of an historianto solve a murder mystery!

We are doing everything we can to keep our village alive but we need WCBC, the CRT and Eastman Chemicals-industrial depression with high

There is no good reason why our community at the centre of the WHS corridor should be segregated and ex-cluded from the World Heritage Site and the Tourism Industry now Monsanto has gone.
