ABOUT THE PROGRAM The Canadian Society for the Investigation of Child Abuse is committed to making high quality child abuse investigative training available to all police and child protection workers, regardless of their proximity to an urban training center. Specifically, the goal is to develop a competency-based child abuse training program of modular design which can be offered in a cost-effective, self-paced and flexible manner using cutting edge educational distance delivery methods. PROGRAM OVERVIEW Each module can be comfortably completed within a four-week period. 8 advanced child abuse training modules are offered from September, 2011 to June 2012 PRINCIPLES UNDERLYING THE ADVANCED FORENSIC TRAINING IN THE INVESTIGATION OF CHILD ABUSE • Emphasizing a joint multidisciplinary approach to investigation • Building further investigation skills by adapting the investigation to the complexities of abusive families and recent research • Structuring training materials to use a competency-based approach to activities that will build on the investigator’s existing skill set • Utilizing dynamic, engaging instructors with significant expertise in their field • Assessing skills of participants through the observation of practice scenarios, videotaped investigative interviews, an examination, feedback and coaching • Offering knowledge relevant to work situations with results that can be immediately applied

LOG-ON AND LEARN: Each module will consist of narrated Powerpoint presentations, Live online Elluminate discussions, readings, videoclips and Discussion Forum postings that can be completed at your own pace over the month. A certi�cate will be provided for each session attended as well as a separate one for completion of the entire series. There is no charge for the series as it has been funded by Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security, Victims Programs.
