Overview

Advancements in Cancer Management is an educational forum designed to foster dialogue between primary care providers (PCPs) and the oncology team and to provide strategies that contribute to integrative cancer care for patients. Panel discussions, case studies, and question-and-answer sessions will take place to enhance clinician knowledge and competence. Topics such as screening and diagnosis, managing comorbidities and treatment-related side effects, and palliative care and survivorship will be covered for PCPs to expand their knowledge and transform their practices in cancer care.

Target Audience

Advancements in Cancer Management is designed to meet the educational needs of primary health care providers involved in the care of patients with cancer, including primary care physicians, resident trainees, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and advanced care practitioners.

Learning Objectives

Upon attending this event, participants will be able to:

• Utilize the latest screening recommendations for breast, prostate, lung and colorectal cancers.

• Discuss how to execute timely and appropriate referrals.

• Distinguish how genetic risk factors differ from genetic markers when discussing disease development, therapy benefits and disease outcomes.

• Illustrate strategies to manage cancer pain as well as drug-drug interactions and chemotherapy side effects in patients undergoing active cancer treatment.

• Develop a multidisciplinary team approach during cancer treatment, with special attention to patients who have moderate to severe comorbidities.

• Review and explain how survivorship plans aid in the management of patients once they transition from active cancer treatment.

• Integrate symptom management strategies into the survivorship plan.

• Assess patients for adverse long-term effects of cancer by querying them regarding physical, social or emotional issues.
