Speakers & Topic: Richard Rahn (CPIM) and Gerard Leone are principals with Leonardo Group Americas, a Lean training and consulting company with offices in Boulder and Munich. Richard and Gerard have been full-time Lean consultants since 1994, and have mentored some of the world’s most successful companies, including John Deere, Boeing, and GE. They are currently launching the Lean Design Institute, a platform for online education and certification in Mixed Model Line Design and Mixed Model Material Management.

Since 2012 Leonardo Group Americas has been teaching workshops on Mixed Model Material Management, hosted at Toyota Material Handling in Columbus, Indiana. All of these practices relate to supply-chain and material management, and will be of great interest to the APICS community. You will be surprised! Leonardo Group Americas was founded by Richard Rahn and Gerard Leone, Lean practitioners with over 20 years of consulting experience with many of the world's Lean leaders. If you feel like you are conducting endless Kaizen events, there's a good chance it is because your production line was not designed correctly. They've broken the production line design process into two major categories: Mixed Model Line Design and Mixed Model Material Management.

Education News Our BSCM course has completed for our Winter/Spring CPIM, but you can still sign up for

the other four courses of the CPIM. CLTD has started for this session but you can still sign

up for CSCP for the March 18 start date. See schedules in this newsletter.

Again this semester I want to thank DirecTV/AT&T and Hunter Douglas for their generosity and professionalism and allowing us to use their world class training rooms for our APICS

courses. Letting us use these classrooms really helps us keep costs down and is an

excellent example of Corporate Social Responsibility! THANK YOU!

As I said last month, during the summer of 2017, APICS will revise the CPIM program to include only 2 exams/courses

instead of 5. Currently the 5 exams/courses are Basics of Supply Chain Management, Master Planning of Resources,

Detailed Scheduling and Planning, Execution and Control of Operations, and Strategic Management of Resources. In the future plan there will still be a Basics of Supply Chain Management Exam and then there will be 1 exam that covers all

the other areas of CPIM. Folks will have until September 2017 to complete the current BSCM exam. The Current BSCM will also count toward the next configuration of CPIM. Students will have until the end of 2018 to take the remaining

four exams in the current program, although they will have to get their ATT (Authorization to Test) by July 1, 2018.

It is still our plan that this Winter/Spring session will be the final chance to take the CPIM in the current format, that is,

smaller pieces of SCM per exam and class. For those of you that like this narrow focus per exam/course sign up now for CPIM.

Please let me know if you would like to schedule a discussion about a private APICS course for your company, we can

accommodate a variety of formats. About 50% of our courses are given in this format so it is a very common request.

Please take a look at our CPIM, CSCP and CLTD courses offered this Winter/Spring, to find the class that fits your needs and schedule.

If you have questions, you can contact me at 303-271-1818 x105 or [email protected]. We look forward to seeing

you in a course this Spring.

Thank you for your support of APICS Education!

What are Students saying about APICS Education in Colorado?

"In August and September of this year I was privileged to be include in the first class for the APICS Certification in Logistics, Distribution and Transportation in Denver Colorado. This class was my introduction to this discipline. The instructors were knowledgable, helpful and dedicated in getting the subject matter across not just to pass an exam but on how to use this information to improve a business. Even though this is the first of it's kind class in Colorado and was also pretty much my introduction to Logistics, Distribution and Transportation it provided me the knowledge and insight to pass the certification exam on my first try.” Ken Fiore, CPIM, CLTD, Operations Manager, Custom Stone Etching, LLC

“The APICS CPIM classed taught by the APICS Colorado Chapter 81 was outstanding. The knowledge the instructors bring to each class made understanding the material very easy. Every detail has been thought threw from how the classroom is set up to help people become engaged and to stay engaged during the class, to bringing in specific instructors who specialize in specific topics, makes this a fantastic learning environment. I believe I will have the competitive advantage when taking what I have learned from the classes and applying it to my career.” Mike Hansen, Receiving Coordinator, Air Methods Corporation “As both a career advancement tool or a current state of "best in class" refresher, CLTD is a must have for industry participants. When

enrolled in the CLTD training course the participants can easily attain a more complete understanding of the material and experience that

"Aha" moment again and again by applying real world examples to the course material.” Christopher “Kit” Childers, CLTD, Global

Supply Chain Professional

“I highly recommend the CLTD offered through AICS to any supply chain professional interested in furthering there

career. This course offers extensive review of the entire logistics networks, distribution strategies, and supply chain connectivity from

demand and supply planning.” Stephen Robles C.P.M, CPIM, CSCP, Director of Materials & Warehouse Operations, Hunter

Douglas

“I took the APICS CPIM class while preparing to restart my career in Production Planning after seven years of

break from Supply Chain Management. The production and inventory management concepts and strategies were taught by

instructors with immense knowledge and experience in the field who also shared real life examples. This, along with my

interactions with the fellow students holding different supply chain positions helped me to gain a deeper understanding, and a

good exposure to the current challenges in the field. I found a job in Production Planning soon after the classes were

completed. The company I’m working for now is in the process of implementing a new ERP system, and the concepts that I

learned in the CPIM class helped me to grasp many aspects of the job and the ERP system easily. I believe that the CPIM

training enabled me to find a job faster than I’d expected, and gave me a smoother transition back in the supply chain field. I

would highly recommend this course for anyone interested to advance their career in supply chain management.” Jeena Alex,

CPIM, Production Planner, IMI Precision Engineering

“I was fortunate to get enrolled in the first ever CLTD class provided by APICS. The class was well put together and closely related to what I do on a daily basis. APICS provides five books and an online portal specifically for the CLTD class with all the necessary material and practice tests. There were many participants in the class from different industries and various areas within their companies so it was a great platform to learn from other’s experiences. I walked away with a better understanding of Logistics and how it impacts all areas of the supply chain, as well as the increasing importance for companies to have a well-planned and efficient supply chain. Job Hunting Tips

DID YOU KNOW THAT MOST COMPANIES NOW USE SOFTWARE

TO MATCH KEY WORDS FROM YOUR RESUME AND THEIR JOB

DESCRIPTION/QUALIFICATIONS?

Ever wondered if certified employees make much of a difference?

Certified employees: Increase productivity. Certified employees can handle complex challenges more efficiently, are able to support and

mentor uncertified staff, and are more productive.

Manage risk better. Certified employees are more knowledgeable about how to diagnose problems, reduce the

severity and duration, and improve systems resiliency.

Have better business agility. Certified employees can improve time to market, and accelerate delivery of new products

all with greater adherence to the budget.

Need more…Certified employees have less turnover, onboard faster, have the ability to take on more responsibilities,

and advance faster, are more engaged, and are more likely to stick around.

APICS Certifications Show Your Potential!!!

Add earning APICS Certifications to your career plan!

Go to http://apicscolorado.org to see job listings nationwide!

Use these tips to help your resume stand out!

• Select key words and phrases from the posting in the Job Description and Requirements/Qualification section to detail on your resume.

• Target your approach - Research the company. Know more about the company than the people interviewing you.

• Use an Objective Statement on your resume, this is important and assists with keyword match.

• Sell the benefits that you will bring to the seeking company. Use action verbs and quantify with your achieved results!

• NETWORK…NETWORK...NETWORK!!!! 65%-80% of jobs are not published! Involve yourself with

organizations and people that pertain to your career choice. Continually add contacts and obtain information to create a web of opportunity!
