advantages of solar hot water systems
TRANSCRIPT
Years before there were photo voltaic solar cells that
you could put on your roof to make electricity, there
was solar hot water panels that created hot water
from the sun that then fed into the house to be used.
There are several different kinds of solar hot water
systems that range all the way from do-it-yourself
system.

Depending on the climate
where you live, the direction
and slant of your roof, and the
space available for hot a water
storage tank, it is possible to
save quite a bit of money on
energy. Let's take a look at
some of the ways this type of
system can be put together and
some of the advantages and
disadvantages.More info on:

A renewable energy solar thermal technology
system as it's called, takes the sun's heat energy
and uses it to heat regular household water,
pool water, or Jacuzzi water in order not to use
natural gas, electricity or oil which all cost
money. More info on:

By using free energy from the sun, even if it's only
to pre-heat the water before it enters your regular
water heater, you can save money passively. For
the most part, these kinds of systems only require
an investment at the beginning, then function for a
decade with almost no maintenance.

As far as the collector panels
go, there are couples of
different kinds, mostly based on
whether or not they are
concentrating the sun's energy
to heat the water or just heating
water directly. A high
temperature collector uses
mirrors, lenses and other means
to concentrate the sunlight to a
higher temperature than the low
temperature collectors will.

There are some systems that
use a pump to constantly
circulate the water through
the collectors and through a
holding tank, keeping the
holding tank water at a
constant high temperature. A
passive system will function
using only the regular water
pressure from the pipes.

If you do opt to go with the high-tech system
involving a pump, it also uses its own heat
transfer storage tank and a special fluid
circulates through the system that is able to
handle and store more heat than just regular
water.
