Spend two unforgettable days exploring behind the wheel of an Arctic Trucks AT38 pickup - similar to the vehicles used by our exploration teams in Antarctica. You will drive to Landmannalaugar, Icelandic Highland paradise.

In the morning you will visit the Arctic Trucks headquarters in Reykjavík where you will have a full tour around the showroom and the workshop where the vehicles are re-engineered. Our experienced team will brief you on driving the Arctic Trucks vehicle in the diverse conditions of the Icelandic terrain before undertaking the self-drive adventure.

We will drive over a wide variety of tracks, through breath-taking mountain ranges. The Arctic Trucks guide will share with the group some useful hints and tips for driving in snow and you will see the vehicle capabilities in action. You will also have the chance to experience the Arctic Trucks ‘low pressure tyre’ concept and deflate the tires for better traction of snow.

Towards the end of the day the group will reach Landmannalaugar and the comfy mountain hut surrounded by extraordinary mountains. We will indulge in a traditional Icelandic Christmas dinner. After that anyone can enjoy a bath in the natural hot spring nearby and hopefully we will see the Northern Lights dancing above our heads. The Icelandic Santa Claus might join us with some Icelandic beers to taste, hot chocolate and cookies.

Next morning, we will enjoy a Christmas style breakfast in the hut and when the group is ready we will head back down from the highlands. We will drive over rivers, in deep snow and sometimes the GPS will be the only way to follow.

If conditions are good we will visit Hekla Volcano. Hekla is a 1450-meter-high and one of Iceland’s most active volcanoes that had its most recent eruption in 2000. During the Middle Ages, Europeans called the volcano the “Gateway to Hell”.

We will arrive in Reykjavík late afternoon, just in time for a gourmet dinner at one of the traditional Icelandic restaurants.
