day camp experienceGreat FOr First time Camper!

A week at Adventure Links Summer DAy CAMP is designed to introduce your child to a variety of adventures and opportunities for growth. Our programming is a fantastic chance for your child to get outside, make new friends, and try something new and exciting! Our itineraries are filled with OUTDOOR EDUCATiON, enrichment and excitement, with programs ranging from ROCK CLiMBiNG and CANOEiNG to CAViNG, KAyAKiNG and our TEAM DEVELOPMENT COURSE for all ages and experience levels. The adventure comes to you as Adventure Links has coordinated many Northern Virginia pick-up locations for your convenience. Experience something more during summer camp with the highest qualified, educated, and trained adventure camp staff providing a safe, fun and unique experience for your child.

My child has never done a lot of these activities before; is this camp suitable? The unique quality of adventure activities is that each child can choose their challenge level. for example, when at the rock site, all levels of climbs are available for campers to try. in addition, if a child has had exposure to any of the activities in camp, they approach the week with an increased level of confidence.

How are my children transported?Students are transported by both vans and buses. All drivers are screened and must be approved by our insurance company. All bus drivers are CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) certified and all our drivers also go through a supplemental Adventure Links driver training program.

What are your staff’s qualifications? All instructors have a minimum required certification in First Aid and CPR. Our lead instructors are certified in advanced first aid (Wilderness first Aid) and many have received training as EMT’s or Wilderness first Responders. Lead instructors are supported by instructors and interns. Staff are selected and screened for their skills in outdoor leadership and a high degree of commitment to working with youth. in addition, all new staff members receive background checks.

Do campers sign up with friends or come on their own? There are campers that have chosen to sign up together. However, we often get a group that is meeting each other for the first time. This is most prevalent on our teen expeditions, where students come from all over the United States and even other countries.

Why not give your camper the opportunity to experience an overnight CANOE CAMPiNG adventure on Lake Moomaw while ROCK CLiMBiNG and CAViNG? We designed this itinerary to offer new challenges to our return campers and adventurous new campers. On this overnight we’ll spend a full day away from the comforts and convenience of the Adventure Links bus and campers will get a chance to enjoy the slower paced life of canoe travel. The APPALACHiAN ODySSEy expedition travels to renowned climbing, rafting, caving and backpacking areas of Appalachia. it all begins at Adventure Links Base Camp where we become acquainted with our expedition team through the TEAM DEVELOPMENT COURSE. This includes numerous opportunities for problem-solving, group discussions and activities that link experience and reflection. We journey to one of the most incredible areas of West Virginia, the New River Gorge, for ROCK CLiMBiNG and WHiTE WATER RAfTiNG. After days and on rocks and rivers, we hit the trail. Equipped with all we will need in our packs, we spend four days BACKPACKiNG in the Cranberry Glades Wilderness where campers taste the adventure of living simply and absorbing the wisdom that the outdoors has to teach us. Off the trail, we take a day to rest, restock our fresh food supply and head north to Virginia for another day of ROCK CLiMBiNG. Two weeks come to an end, but the memories remain alive as we return to Adventure Links to say our goodbyes.

Participants explore a wealth of wilderness, rock and whitewater during the NORTH CAROLiNA expedition. Beginning at the Adventure Links Base Camp, the group is immersed into team building activities on the TEAM DEVELOPMENT COURSE that help to break down barriers and forge strong relationships. On Day 2 we depart for Pilot Mountain, NC, best known for its expansive ROCK CLiMBiNG areas. Staying on the move for new adventures, we travel a short distance to the southwestern portion of the state where we begin our KAyAKiNG experience. With the renowned instruction of the Nantahala Outdoor Center, we move comfortably through the techniques of whitewater kayaking. The students walk away with confidence in river reading and kayak rolling. We next set off for our HiKiNG & BACKPACKiNG adventure which takes us further in to the Appalachian backcountry. These areas offer challenges and natural highlights such as waterfalls and expansive views with a peaceful atmosphere that encourages reflection and thoughtfulness. We fit in one more ROCK CLiMBiNG adventure before we begin our journey home with a new collection of lessons, skills, friendships and experiences that remain with us forever.

My son loved Adventure Links and his first words when we picked him up both years were ‘that was the best time I’ve ever had in my life.

The New England expedition offers the perfect combination of breathtaking mountains, rugged ocean, rocky cliffs and spectacular views! We meet at Adventure Links Base Camp to prepare for this exciting trip, pack our gear and bond on our TEAM DEVELOPMENT COURSE. Next, will be to WHiTE WATER RAfT, in which we raft with the Wild Waters Outdoor Center on Class i-iii rapids. Then it’s off to Gorham, NH to challenge the boulders, ROCK CLiMBiNG and covering the fundamentals of BELAyiNG. Next we hike Mount Washington. The best HiKiNG days start with the sunrise, so we jumpstart our days early and hike up to the summit, resting at the Lake of the Clouds Hut that evening. After our adventures here, we make our way to Echo Crag, a premiere site where we review belaying and demonstrate more ADVANCED ROCK CLiMBiNG techniques. After leaving New Hampshire, we drive to Casco Bay off the coast of Portland, Maine for a three day SEA KAyAKiNG adventure. We spend the next few days exploring the shoreline of Maine in our kayaks, with day hikes at a relaxing pace and camping at Jewell island. We enjoy our last hours together watching the sunset over the Shenandoah Valley at Bears Den, with the past two weeks on our minds and in our hearts.

The Boundary Waters Expedition takes the backcountry experience to a whole new level while paddling in The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Superior National forest in Minnesota has 1.3 million acres of towering rock formations, gentle hills and rugged shores nestled among several thousand lakes and streams … Our trip starts at Adventure Links in Clifton, VA where we bond as a group on the TEAM DEVELOPMENT COURSE, pack gear and fly to Minnesota together the following day. On Moose Lake we learn the basics of CANOEiNG and head out for our first campsite. As we catch a glimpse of the US/Canadian Border, we paddle deep into the backcountry where we’ll be removed from civilization: no motors or structures, just pure wilderness. We challenge ourselves PORTAGiNG, car-rying all of our gear (including the canoes!) over land from one lake to the next. Over the next few days we’ll develop our WiLDERNESS NAViGATiON skills and learn various PRiMiTiVE SKiLLS including friction fires, shelters, wild edibles, tracking, and of course fiSHiNG for Walleye and Northern Pike. After we visit historical sites we’ll then spend time on a SOLO. This day allows participants to experience the wilderness more independently, while still within safe range of our instructors. After our final paddle back to base we enjoy an evening of good food, great stories and one last sunset over Moose Lake as we prepare to fly back to Virginia in the morning.

imagine a weekend where you and your child have an opportunity to tackle a TEAM DEVELOPMENT COURSE, experience adventures, enjoy the great outdoors and, most importantly, grow closer together. We will be hosting a family adventure for the participants of our current year summer camp programming. Since each child has completed the activities before, confidence and leadership emerge as they introduce their family to the Adventure Links experience.

After meeting at our facility on Saturday in Clifton, VA we’ll spend the day PADDLiNG CANOES & KAyAKS on Bull Run. The bonding will continue into the evening, consisting of a TEAM DEVELOPMENT COURSE AND ZiPLiNE, delicious Adventure Links dinner, campfire stories and s’mores. After a peaceful night’s sleep in platform tents, your journey continues the following day with ROCK CLiMBiNG at Great falls Park, VA. There you will have the opportunity to challenge yourself and encourage each other as you stretch beyond your “comfort zone” in a safe, supportive (yet adventurous!) environment. All the equipment, four meals (Saturday lunch through Sunday lunch), accommodations and professional instruction are included so just pack your sleeping bags and join us!
