Dear Governor Herbert:

As faith community leaders we ask you to help our fellow Utahns thrive through the expansion of Medicaid to providehealth care coverage to some of our most vulnerable neighbors.

As the state commissioned Public Consulting Group study showed, expanding Medicaid in Utah could ultimatelyassist 123,586 adults who would otherwise be uninsured. Providing this assistance would ensure that thousandsof Utahns have access to preventative care and are able to receive medical attention before their situation becomescatastrophic.

Expansion benefits the state as a whole. Expanding Medicaid would improve the health outcomes for thousands, whilegenerating $2.2 billion in statewide economic impacts and creating 3,151 new jobs. It is projected to generate $130to $160 million in state and county tax revenues and reduce the costs of uncompensated care to our health system.

Thus, there is a practical side to our lofty hopes for obtaining medical care for the Utahns who need this help.

We appreciate your careful deliberations over Medicaid Expansion and your willingness to listen to leaders andcitizens of all backgrounds who make up our Utah community.

We respectfully ask that you lead us in finding the way to expand Medicaid that fits Utah and reaches the thousandsof our neighbors who are in desperate need of medical care.
