NATIONAL MEANS-CUM-MERIT (NMMS) / H.P STATE TALENT SEARCH

EXAMINATION (NTSE-1) - NOVEMBER 2013

State Council of Educational Research & Training, Solan (Himachal Pradesh) proposes to hold

two examinations for the academic session 2013-14: National Means-cum- Merit Scholarship

(NMMS) for Class VIII and H.P Talent Search Examination (HPTSE /NTSE- I ) for class X

students on 17- 11- 2013 (Sunday) at 27 Centres in Himachal Pradesh. The students who

qualify Stage – I of NTSE (state quota fixed) will be eligible to appear in National Talent Search

Examination (NTSE- II) to be conducted by NCERT, New Delhi on 11- 05- 2014. One thousand

(1000) scholarships of Rs. 500/- per month will be awarded by NCERT, New Delhi from class X

onwards up to Post-graduation / Ph.D level. There are 832 scholarships for H.P under NMMS

scheme given by MHRD, New Delhi. The scholarship worth Rs. 500/- per month will be

awarded to the poor meritorious students for 4 years i.e from class IX to XII.

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS FOR NMMS (For Class VIII Students)

1) Any regular student studying in VIII class of Govt./Govt. aided (95% aided by H.P

Govt.) schools in H.P with 55% marks in previous class i.e class VII( relaxation of 5%

for SC/ST/Physically challenged group) can appear in this examination.

2) The parental income of the students should not exceed Rs. 150000/- (One lac fifty

thousand ) per annum from all sources and certificate to this effect issued by the

SDM/Tehsildar/ Naib Tehsildar) must be attached in original with the Application

form.

3) Attach attested photocopy of class VII certificate with the Application form

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS FOR NTSE (For Class X Students)

1) Any regular student studying in class X (Session 2013- 14) of any school in H.P (JNV,

KV, Govt., Govt. aided or Private schools) can appear in this examination. He should

have secured atleast 55% marks in class IX (2012-13). Relaxation of 5% is given to

candidates of reserved category.

2) Attach attested photocopy of class IX certificate with the Application form

3) Students who appeared in NTSE Nov 2011 in class VIII can also apply for this

examination.

COMMON CONDITIONS FOR NTSE/NMMS

1) 15% seats are reserved for SC, 7.5% for ST and 3% for Physically challenged group

(PCG)

2) Examination fee of Rs. 25/- for General Category and Rs. 15/- for SC/ST/PCG is to be

sent in the name of Principal, SCERT, Solan (H.P) by IPO or Demand draft

4) Candidates claiming caste/tribe reservation must attach attested copy of SC/ST certificate

issued by SDM/Tehsildar/Naib Tehsildar with the application form.

5) Candidates belonging to PCG must attach certificate issued by competent authority

(CMO) stating disability status of 40% or above

6) Forms duly attested by the Head of the institution, complete in all respects along with the

documents should reach the Principal, SCERT by 10-09-2013. Incomplete forms will be

rejected straightforward and Examination fee will be forfeited. No information in this

regard will be given.

cost from this office or by sending self addressed envelope with stamp of Rs. 5/- to the

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CANDIDATE1 Make sure that the Admit Card is attached with the Application Form. It will be returned to

you after the allotment of the Roll Number. Bring your Admit Card to the Examination Centrepositively.

2. Reach the Examination centre at least half an hour before the commencement of theexamination and occupy the seat that bears your Roll Number.

3. Do NOT take calculator, mobile phone, mathematical & physical table or any other kind ofready reckoner to the Examination Hall.

4. The examination will be conducted in two sessions on the same day.5. You have to take the examination in THREE PARTS :

(I) Part I comprises of Mental Ability Test (MAT) consisting of 50 questions.(II) Part II Comprises of Language Test consisting of 40 question (Hindi 20 & English 20)(III) Part III comprises of Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) consisting 90 questions (From SocialScience, Basic Science, Language (Hindi & English) & Mathematics.

6. Time for Part I is 45 minutes, for Part II is 45 minutes & for Part III in 90 minutes.7. Each question carries 1 (one) mark and there will be no negative marking.8. Write your Roll Number and Centre Code Number as given in the Admit Card on the Answer

Sheet and on the cover page of the question Booklet in the space provided.9. DO NOT Write your name in any part of the Question Booklet or the Answer Sheet.10. All Questions in the booklets are of objective type. For each Question there are four options

NATIONAL MEANS-cum-MERIT SCHOLARSHIP (NMMS) 2014(Date of Exam : 17 November, 2013 (Sunday)

Ministry of Human Resource and Development has launched National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Schemeto award 1,00,000 scholarships to the meritorious students whose parental income is less thanRs. 1.5 lakh per year.

Himachal Pradesh has been allotted quota of 832 schloarships out of which 15% scholarships will bealloted to SC, 7.5% to ST and 3% to Physically Challanged Group (PCG).

The scholarship will be paid from class IX to XII. The amount of scholarship is Rs. 500/- (Per month)subject to the condition that he/she secures 55% or more marks in 8th, 9th, 10+1 & 60% in class 10th.Relaxable by 5% for SC/ST/PCG. The awardee of the Scholarship has to continue his/her educationonly in Govt./Local Body/Govt. aided private schools.

Eligibility Conditions :Any regular student of class VIII in academic session 2012-13 can appear provided he/she hassecured 55% or more marks in aggregate in Class VII relaxable by 5% for SC/ST/PCG.

The student should be studying in Govt./Local Body/Govt. aided private schools.

The parental income of the candidate should be less than Rs. 1,50,000/- per year (Income certificateissued by SDM/Tehsildar/Naib Tehsildar must be attached in original).Candidates belonging to SC/ST should attach attested copies of certificates issued by SDM/Tehsildar/Naib Tehsildar.

Candidates belong to PCG (Physically Challenged Group) should attach a certificate in this respectfrom CDMO (Chief Distt. Medical Officer). The extent of Physical disability should be 40% or above.

A self addressed stamped envelop bearing stamps of Rs. 5/- be attached with theapplication form otherwise admission card not be sent.

Selection process for the award of NMMS scholarship has one stage only :(Date of Examination : 17 November, 2013)

The Examination will comprise of three tests namely MENTAL ABILITY (MAT), Language Test andSCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST (SAT)

MAT will judge the power of reasoning, ability to think and judge, evaluate or discriminate etc.SAT will consist of Social Science, Basic science and Mathematics.MAT will be of 50 Marks (45 Min.) Language Test will be of 40 Marks (45 Min.)There will be no negative marking.The minimum qualifying marks for general category candidates shall be 40% and for SC/ST/PCG is32%The scholarship shall be awarded to those selected candidates who secure 55% or more marks inclass VIII. There will be relaxation of 5% for SC/ST/PCG.

INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CANDIDATE1 Make sure that the Admit Card is attached with the Application Form. It will be returned to

you after the allotment of the Roll Number. Bring your Admit Card to the Examination Centrepositively on the examination date.

2. Reach the Examination centre at least half an hour before the commencement of theexamination and occupy the seat that bears your Roll Number.

3. Do NOT take calculator, mobile phone, mathematical & physical table or any other kind ofready reckoner to the Examination Hall.

4. The examination will be conducted in two sessions on the same day.5. You have to take the examination in THREE PARTS :

(I) Part I comprises of Mental Ability Test (MAT) consisting of 50 questions.(II) Part II comprises of language test consisting of 40 questions 20 Hindi & 20 English.(III) Part III comprises of Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) consisting 90 questions (From SocialScience. Basic Science & Mathematics).

6. Time for Part I is 45 minutes, for Part II is 45 minutes and for Part III is 90 minuet.7. Each question carries 1 (one) mark and there will be no negative marking at state level exam.8. Write your Roll Number and Centre Code Number as given in the Admit Card on the Answer

Sheet and on the cover page of the question Booklet in the space provided.9. DO NOT Write your name in any part of the Question Booklet or the Answer Sheet.10. All Questions in the booklets are of objective type. For each Question there are Four options

General InformationH.P. State Talent Search Examination - 2014

(Date of Exam : 17 November, 2013 (Sunday)On the basis of final examination conducted by NCERT, 1000 scholarships will be awarded.15% scholarships will be awarded to SC, 7.5% to ST and 3% to Physically Challenged Group (PCG).The awardees of NTSE will receive a sum of Rs. 500/- per month as per NTSE rules.For the courses in Basic science, Social Science and Commerce, the Scholarship is provided up to Ph.D level.For professional courses the scholarship is given up to Post Graduation.

Eligibility Conditions :Any regular student of class X in academic session 2013-14 can appear in this examination. He must have passed IX class securing 55% (Gen. Category) & 50% (SC/ST/PCG) in 2013.The attested copy of marksheet of class IX must be attached with the application form. Candidate failed in class X is not eligible to sit in examination.Candidates belonging to SC/ST must attach attested copies of certificate from SDM/Tehsildar/Naib Tehsildar with the application form.Candidates belonging to PCG must attach a certificate issued from CDMO (Chief Distt. Medical Officer) Disablity should be 40% or more. If a candidate doesnot attach SC/ST/PCG, he/she shall be considered for General Category.A self addressed stamped envelop bearing stamp of Rs. 5/- be attached with the application form otherwise admission card will not be sent. Information Regarding Examination :- Selection process for the award of scholarship has 2 stages :Stage - I (STATE LEVEL) (Date of Examination : 17 November, 2013)STAGE - I will comprise of three tests namely MENTAL ABILITY (MAT) LANGUAGE TEST &SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST (SAT)MAT will judge the power of reasoning, ability to think and judge, evaluate or discriminate etc.Language test will consist of Hindi & English (20 questions each)SAT will consist of three parts of the disision of marks will be as follows1) Science : Phy. (12), Chem. (II), Bio. (12) = 35 Marks2) Mathematic 20 Marks3) Social Science : Hindi (10), Geo. (10) Pol. Sc. (10), Eco. (5) = 35 MarksMAT will be of 50 marks, Language Test of 40 marks & SAT of 90 marks. All the questions will becompulsary. There will be no negative marking for wrong answers.There is no prescribed syllabus but the level of question will be equivement class X of CBSE/H.P.Boards.

The minimum qualifying marks for general category candidates shall be 40% and for SC/ST/PCG is 32%for each examination. 35 candidates will be selected in stage - I and their names will be recommended to NCERT, NewDelhi for appearing in Stage - II of the examination.There is no provision for revaluation of result.STAGE - II (NATIONAL LEVEL) (Date of Exam : 11th May, 2014)Stage - II will also comprise of MAT and SAT.The candidate who qualifies in Stage - II will be awarded the Scholarship. There is no provision forState quota at the stage.Students sclected in the examination shall be informed on their School address by SCERT Solan.In case of any discrepency/ineligibility, candidature of the candidate shall be cancelled at any stage.Incomplete forms/candidate ineligible in any respect shall be rejected straightway & will not be in-formed individually.
