• Once you are a parent all kids are your kids

• Kids don’t come with owner’s manuals,

therefore raising your kids is called “on the

job training”

• By the time parents learn how to raise their

kids, their kids have become parents

• This is the reason why Grandparents live as

long as they do

Now that you are here, be a kid. Laugh, play, be silly and have fun!


Learn how to read before you enter school, not three years after that. It’s a window to the world.


Do not be overly concerned about how you look to others. Many secretly want to look like you.


Learn to swim, ride a bike, skate, hike and camp out with your family.


Ask someone to explain the day and night, the clouds, the sun and the stars. Go to the zoo or aquarium and learn about other animals. Earth is home to all of us.


Learn manners. It helps define you and opens many doors for you as you grow up.


Boys, learn to respect and protect girls and later women. Never abuse them in any way.


Girls, learn how to behave in the company of boys and later men; especially when they show you the respect and dignity you deserve.


As you enter high school do so with a good self-esteem. It’s more than a social contest where you must change who you are to be accepted by others.


Learn music. Music is the universal language of the human race.


Learn to avoid prejudice and judgment. You can’t reach your highest achievements if you label others whose culture you do not understand.


As you enter schools of higher learning regard it as study for your career, not just a social club for parties, drugs, drinking or easy sex, thinking it will all work out.


Learn to accept responsibility for your choices and actions. Every decision you make is a permanent turn on your road of life.


Learn right from wrong and do not depend on laws to regulate morality. Cheating, stealing, lying or harming others permanently diminishes who you are.


Become part of your community solution, not just a bystander wondering what’s going on. Choose your leaders from a base of knowledge, not a rush of emotion.


Know that nations act in ways individuals might never consider. Do not think the crowd is always right. Seek your own knowledge before you side with any important decision.


Seek peace in all matters of human endeavor but do not withdraw from protecting your family, your community or your freedom.


FOCUS. Do not allow yourself to be constantly distracted, pulling you off course and away from your goals.


Relax now and then. Hard work is only a virtue in a balanced life.


Money is choice and choice is freedom. Learn about it. Save it. Start with your first paycheck and never stop. You will wake up one day unable to work or ready to retire and you will need that money.


Turn off the TV. Especially keep it away from your kids unless you don’t care about the permanent mind programming it provides.


Care about the human condition. Know about your planet family, not just your neighbors. Small acts of kindness may be all they get that day.


When your kids come along enlist the care, advice, guidance, leadership and love your elders bring to the celebration. You do not know what they know and you will not until you reach their age.


Pay attention to your kids; what they do, where they go, who they hang out with. Set aside time for them, not just for working two jobs to pay for your house, your car or your shoes.


Pay your way in life when you are able. Do not expect society to continually provide for you if you don’t do it for yourself.


Avoid personal debt as much as you possibly can. It can be toxic. Never use debt to buy anything that depreciates. Debt is a choice that can rob you of your money and eventually your dignity.


Do not be a victim. You are not your circumstances when you have choices. When you face hard times stand tall and become your own leader.


Take personal responsibility for your health. Without it nothing else matters. Exercise and stay mentally fit. Do not expect Doctors or pills to be responsible for your quality of life.


In business matters trust is everything. Seek the advice and guidance of professionals but do not ignore your instinct.


As you mature join those you grew up with in a spirit of mutual support and happiness, not a competition to stay young.


Finally… Take off the mask now and then. Be yourself. When it comes right down to it, nobody really cares about your car, your shoes or your zip code. If you think they do then go back to slide # 1. Love, Dad
