Important Dates for Fall 2015

• Priority registration for Fall begins for continuing students April 14.

• Open registration for Fall begins for all students May 5.

If you enroll Tuition payment is due

through July 26 By 5 p.m. July 27, or your

classes may be dropped.

July 27 or later By 5 p.m. the next business

day after you enroll, or your

classes may be dropped.

There will be no late registration and you will not be permitted to

1.Log into My NOVA (the Student Information System).

2.Select VCCS SIS: Student Information System.

3.Under Self Service, click on the Student Center.

4.Click on User Preferences under the heading Personal

Information and make sure that the Term is set to the current

semester.

5.Return to Student Center.

6.On the right hand side, look in the Enrollment Dates box to see

your enrollment appointment date.

Your registration period starts at 12:01 a.m. on your assigned day and continues

through the rest of the registration period.

• What if I register early but then don’t pass my current classes?

– students are responsible for dropping the class(es) for which they registered and

– students are responsible for re-enrolling in the classes they did not pass.

– Instructors check their rosters at the beginning of each semester to make sure students are in the appropriate course.

• Before meeting with an academic advisor, it’s a good

idea for you to review what you’ve already taken and

what you still need to take.

• Is the incorrect major listed on your Academic

Requirements?

– You can declare a major while logged into MyNOVA. However,

you should consider discussing this with a counselor.

• Besides counselors, who else can help with academic

questions such as choosing a major or choosing the right

• If your major is in Math, Science, or Engineering, click

here and then find your major. Then find your advisor’s

name.

• If your major is within the Liberal Arts Division, then go to

Room 252 and you will be assigned an advisor.

• You can register for ESL 31, ESL 32, and ESL 33 for the Summer 2015 or Fall 2015 semesters.

• Are you currently enrolled in ESL 20?

– Your next step is to register for ESL 31 and/or ESL 32.

• Are you currently enrolled in ESL 24?

– Your next step is to register for ESL 33.

• You may only register for ENG 111 + ENF 3 with your ESL 51 instructor’s written permission.

• You may NOT register for ENG 111 + ENF 3 unless – you are taking both ESL 51 and 52

– or if you are currently in ESL 51 and have already taken and passed ESL 52

– or if you are currently in ESL 52 and have already taken and passed ESL 51.

• With the exception of Level 5 students…

– no special permission forms are required for priority registration

– students can register online by themselves.

• PED 116 – Fitness and Wellness

– There is a 1 credit class and a 2 credit class – discuss

which option is best for you with a counselor.

• Math – The results of your VPT for Math as well as your

major will determine which math classes you should

take.

• SDV 100 – College Success Skills (1 credit)

• As you move up from ESL Levels 2 and 3 to ESL Levels

4 and 5, you may begin to take more classes, including

math.

• You should take the Virginia Placement Test for

Mathematics (VPT).
