Východoslovenská energetika Holding a.s. (VSE Group) is one of the major electricity companies in the Slovak Republic. A 49% subsidiary of German energy giant RWE, they supply 600 000 service points in the 16 222 km2 distribution area with electricity. They implemented a highly integrated GIS based on the Esri platform and the vertical solution UT for ArcGIS from AED-SICAD in record time. VSE defi ned the GIS (UT for ArcGIS) as the central entry platform for asset data documentation. The UT Integrator then passes selected data on to other critical IT systems, such as e.g. SAP.

VSE GIS Implementation – Tightly Integrated

Data Situation: Due to the foresight in the project planning, they had designed the migration process already with the latter system integration in mind: Thus al-ready when loading the data, the corresponding SAP unique functional location ID was attached automatically to each new GIS object.

Integration with SAP: SAP is a critical IT system at VSE Group, and thus the SAP integration has been done to three main modules: The interaction with SAP/PM synchronizes the data for all relevant MV assets between SAP/PM and UT for ArcGIS. This way, SAP/PM was relieved of managing the technical data and concentrates just on the organizational data that is available in both systems.

The integration to SAP FI-AA was important to mirror the SAP asset accounting number for rele-vant assets (currently MV lines and substations with related assets like transformers) to the GIS system. This allows VSE Group to calculate the network value for the VSE Group balance in a much easier way and facilitates also the exten-sive reports to the Slovak Regulatory Authority.

The integration to SAP IS-U which enabled the spatial identifi cation of customers and also the refl ection of the individual load data in the GIS

AED-SICAD is SAP Business Partner (Silver Status). The UT Integrator from the UT for ArcGIS Product Suite has been certifi ed by the SAP Integration Center.

is the integration with the by far highest amount of traffi c. From a technological point of view, the integration has been done with UT for ArcGIS Integrator including some custom web services and components for addressing VSE Group specifi cs.

Integration with SCADA: An important project step was already early on the integration with SCADA. Here, the GIS is also the master, and the SCADA receives initial data from the GIS and then daily incremental up-dates of the network topology and relevant tech-nical attributes. Asset maintenance processes at VSE Group are driven by the HIFFI (Maximo) system. Therefore, it was critical to integrate this system also with GIS for MV, which was done also via the UT Integrator. This lead to a seam-less synchronous online integration from GIS to SAP/PM, ETRA and HIFFI on the data and pro-cess level.

Integration with Network: Also for network calculation, the GIS is the mas-ter. VSE Group is using the Siemens tool “PSS SINCAL” for network calculation. All relevant HV, MV and LV data to be calculated are selec-ted in UT for ArcGIS via network tracing and are then exported to the network calculation packa-ge SINCAL.
