The DX system is an indirect closed loop system, and is currently the most efficient indirect system on the market. Featuring active dual flow heat exchange with a finned copper heat exchanger.Method of heat exchange:The “DX” Systems’ Drainback reservoir contains a built-in heat exchanger. As the heat transfer fluid is circulated through the solar collector loop, water is circulated from the storage tank through the finned coil heat exchanger inside the reservoir.

DX system features:Gravity removes all water from the collectors,and their pipe lines to ensure they never freeze when the system is not capturing heat. Each time the pump shuts off, the water in the collector(s) and piping, which are mounted at a slight angle, drains into the insulated reservoir. A sight glass attached to the reservoir tank indicates that the collector(s) has been completely drained.A controller is used in these systems to sense when the temperature at the top of the collectors is hotter than the water in the bottom of the storage tank and if the storage tank is at the desired temp. The DB System is an indirect, closed loop system utilizing gravity as the underlying force. Method of heat exchange: the “DB” Drainback Systems’ storage tank contains a double wall wrap around heat exchanger. Heat transfer fluid is circulated through the solar collector loop, and then through the heat exchanger in the storage tank. Having a double wall wrap around heat exchanger is an option for code requirements with those states where it is mandatory.

This new and innovative system combines the advantages of the DB and the DX Drainback systems. While only having one pump, this system is still efficient with its single wall heat exchanger. Other systems like the DX require two pumps and while the DB system has a double wall heat exchanger. This system is comprised of not only a stainless steel storage tank and Drainback reservoir, but also a stainless steel heat exchanger inside the storage tank. The warranty on this system is ten years on major components such as the collectors, drainback reservoir, and storage tank.

The DX Drainback Retrofit Kit is great for existing water heaters which are fairly new and do not need to be replaced. A drainback reservoir with a heat exchanger is installed close to the storage tank. This makes the system closed loop, meaning the potable water will not come into contact with the liquid in the collectors. This system can be installed by any licensed solar installer.

The “IPV” is a type of Residential Solar Hot Water System referred to as “indirect” because the sun, through a roof-mounted collector, heats fluid circulating in a closed off solar loop that never comes in direct contact with usable water stored in an insulated tank.

IPV System Features:

Accommodates climates where freezing weather occurs more frequently.

An integrated wrap around heat exchanger inside the storage tank transfers heat from the solar loop to water in the storage tank. Water is the best heat transfer fluid, however glycol can be used to prevent freeezing inside the supply and return lines. A small PV panel (which generates electricity from the sun) is available to operate the circulation pump, further reducing traditional energy consumption.

The Direct Series systems, found in Tropical Climates, are referred to as direct because the sun’s heat is transferred through the collector directly to the usable water. Features:

A differential control senses temperature differences between water leaving the collector and the coldest water in the bottom of the storage tank. When the temperature of the water in the collector is hotter than the water in the tank, the differential control operates the circulating pump. Freeze protection includes, automatic recirculation, thermally operated valve installed at the collector (where required) or by manually draining, and a properly installed collector.

The Free Flow Series is a Thermosiphon system. As a self-contained solar water heating system, the Free Flow Systems have collector(s) positioned lower than the tank(s), sloped at a minimum of 10°, and operate on the principle of natural convection. As the sun heats the water in the collector, it becomes less dense, causing the water to rise into the tank. The colder, heavier, water in the bottom of the tank then sinks into the bottom of the collector. These events create a continuous natural circulation.

Free Flow System Features:

Thermosiphon systems are widely accepted throughout the world today. They are automatic, simple, and reliable.

Thermosiphon Systems do not require a pump or a controller.

The majority of solar pool heaters are designed with “individual” round flow tubes so that if a tube leaks it can easily be plugged. Some manufacturers even state in their warranty that a damaged system will be repaired if possible. In most cases a “repair” is nothing more than a plug.
