Africa | Zimbabwe | Lake Kariba
Sketches on the Spot - 1862Thomas Baines F.R.G.S
There is a place deep in Africa,
first explored by David Livingstone & Thomas Baines,
a place of peace and tranquillity,
where the golden age of safari awaits you.
Lake Kariba, possibly the most important source of power to Africa,
measuring more than 5 500 square kilometres, provides a paradise to
explore, with an ever-changing kaleidoscope of views of infinity and of
wildlife roaming the shores.
Kariba Shores
Once Matusadona has moored for the day at one of the many secluded
spots on the shores, try your hand at angling, enjoy one of Kariba’s
magical sunsets or simply relax with your feet up on board.
Explore
We cruise within the Matusadona National Park, where wildlife is
naturally drawn to its shores. But you could also venture into the bush
and join a morning game drive in one of Zimbabwe’s prime wilderness
areas.
On-Board
Providing 360 degree vistas of Lake Kariba, our Palm Deck offers the
ultimate entertainment area, both by day and during the evening.
Lake Kariba is undoubtedly one of the world’s most unique destinations
where you will experiene tranquillity in its purest form, yet where you will
enjoy the most remarkable holiday.
Indoors
On a cool day or during one of the Lake’s infamous down-pours, we invite
you to make yourself comfortable in the Saloon with a good book and a
steaming cup of coffee, or take on fellow passengers at one of the fun
board games available.
Need to do some work? Our business desk in the Saloon provides you with
comfortable facilities.
A Casual Affair
Enjoy a variety of dishes, freshly prepared by the crew and tailored to suit
your preferences. If you feel like preparing your family’s favourite dish
yourself today, our gourmet galley is all yours.
At Nightfall…
With the gentle lapping of waves, frequent grunts of the hippo, the
distant roar of the lion and the eerie cry of the Fish Eagle, you are in the
real bush, whilst cocooned in the lap of luxury.
A signature of excellence
Two destinations, two countries, two of Africa’s last remaining true wilderness areas.
The Matusadona joins Baines’ River Camp in neighbouring Zambia on the banks of the Zambezi
River to offer the ultimate in barefoot luxury. Both operate in wildlife areas where no fences exist
and nature alone forms its boundaries. With activities operated both on land and on water, each
destination provides you with an African safari of a lifetime.

ever-changing vistas of distant mountain views and some of the most
idyllic sunsets in the world.
The Matusadona is often likened to an exclusive floating lodge which
graciously transports its guests to an exciting new destination daily.
Lake Kariba is located a mere 217 km from Lusaka Airport and 374 km
from Harare Airport.
