The year in review:This has been another fruitful year in Africa with thousands accepting Christ as their personal saviour. Over the

past year AE Australia has been working closely with our local supporters to encourage prayer and financial support for the many and varied missions and projects undertaken by our teams in Africa. With your help we have been able to lift the level of funds delivered to Afri-ca this year while keeping our local costs stable. I take this opportunity to thank all of you who have supported us in 2014. The work in Africa is only

possible with your support.The teams in Africa under the leadership of Stephen Mbogo have undertaken many local and regional missions and continue to move forward to West and North Africa. This has included the Leadership mission in Abidjan, Cote d’ Ivoire and the launch of two projects focused on North Africa:• The Reverse Mission: Bringing

Christians from 10/40 window countries to be exposed to Christian communities and AE Missions.

• Establishment of a Leadership and Reconciliation Centre in Juba, South Sudan (2014 and ongoing).

Some other mission and project highlights in 2014 include the Isiolo mission in Kenya, Pretoria University mission in South Africa, Evangelism training in Rwanda and several ICBS/PTC courses providing theological training for pastors. Every mission and project has been focused on winning lives for Christ and equipping the churches to nurture their communities.

Looking Forward:In 2015 we will be saying goodbye to Executive Director, Peter Cheel. We need to recognise the tremendous contribution that Peter Cheel has made over the past six and a half years as our Australian Executive Director. Amongst his many achievements over this period Peter ably lead the team in Australia, developed greater links with Hong Kong and with the team in Sydney and the wonderful support of long term donors developed the new branding, web platform and communications department for the Partnership. It is with regret that we have said farewell to Peter and our prayers go with him for his new venture.

In 2015 the Board will be recruiting a replacement and is taking the opportunity to review and, where appropriate, refocus the Executive Director’s mandate. We expect to have a new Executive Director in position before the middle of 2015.

We still have much to do to lift the level of services we provide to our supporters and much to do to encourage many more new supporters to join the AE family. Our new Executive Director will be focusing on increasing our interaction with supporters and developing new and renewed growth initiatives.

Again this year it has been an absolute privilege for me to be able to be involved in the work here in Australia and with the teams and the Executive in Africa.

The year in review:A political uprising in South Sudan sent the new democracy into a downward spiral of tribal based violence. African Enterprise (AE) responded immediately sending a small team to Juba

to initiate a dialogue on peacebuilding with leaders from different sectors of the city. Following the initial foray into Juba, AE returned to this city on several occasions to facilitate peacebuilding workshops and to distribute basic commodities to people

isolated in refugee camps.In October a highly successful Leadership Mission was held in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.Political, civic, church, youth, business and other professional leadership groupings heard the gospel and the message of peace and reconciliation. As a result of this initiative many leaders were profoundly impacted by the message of hope. As the mission concluded, the legal fraternity formed a fellowship group and committed to meet on a regular basis. The political leadership grouping invited AE to return to Abidjan in 2015 to facilitate a workshop with

“leaders spanning the political landscape. The purpose of this workshop is to pave the way for peaceful elections in October 2015… and for an overwhelming acceptance of the ballot.

Hundreds of thousands of people were positively impacted across Africa through city based missions and social action projects. In a section of the city of Hoima, Uganda, where AE conducted its mission, so many people turned to Jesus that a new church had to be ‘planted’... what a wonderful challenge to have!!

On the home front we received many blessings that resulted from key AE staff visiting Australia and Hong Kong during 2014. Enoch Phiri, Team Leader, Malawi visited regional NSW in April; Dr Stephen Mbogo, Global CEO visited Australia and Hong Kong in July and John Kalenzi, Team Leader, Rwanda visited Hong Kong in November.

Looking Forward:Following the ground breaking work with leaders in South Sudan, AE acquired land in Juba and are now in the process of establishing

the first ever Leadership and Peacebuilding Centre. The centre will be launched April 2015 and will train and teach leaders throughout South Sudan in areas such as leadership development, peacebuilding and forgiveness, theological training and other related topics. We praise God that the full budget for the Centre’s first year of operation has already been raised. What an awesome God we worship!

The next Leadership Mission is planned to take place at the end of September in Harare, Zimbabwe… a nation crying out for godly leadership.

Another exciting ministry initiative is the concept of a Reverse Mission, where our teams will host Christians from countries where Islam is dominant. During the mission Christians will be loved, fellowshipped, discipled and equipped to return to their countries and subsequently partner with AE. We do covet your prayers for this strategic ministry.

Solomon wisely said that there is a season and a time for everything. After nearly seven years at AE my season is concluding.

I have had the most amazing experience, serving my brothers and sisters in Africa and fellowshipping with giants like Michael Cassidy, Stephen Lungu and more recently, Stephen Mbogo. Africa is in my blood and AE is in my heart; so while I may be leaving my role at AE I remain an Ambassador for this special ministry. Thank you to all supporters, partners, ambassadors, volunteers, my small but dynamic team, the AE Board and colleagues... a great journey indeed!

Michael has considerable experience in the commercial field as a Finance Director to a market research,and publishing group, and also as a finance personnel recruitment consultant. He was the former AE Executive Director of Australia and New Zealand for 19 years and the Chief Operating Officer for African Enterprise International for 6 years so brings a wealth of knowledge to the Board.

John has over 20 years experience in public, private, and not-for-profit organisations. He has led a number of business expansions and business turnarounds. Today as the owner of Reposition, John is helping business leaders to reposition aspects of their organisations to significantly impact performance and future success.

Judy is the Principle of Credence International, a growing executive search and selection firm. Judy is keenly engaged with social enterprise initiatives to alleviate poverty in developing countries.

Mr Benjamin HenshallBSc

Ben has many years experience in sales and marketing roles for Australian and multinational IT companies. He has been actively involved in his local church in various ministries for the past decade.


An interdenominational Christian ministry committed to evangelising the cites of Africa, through word and deed, in partnership with African churches. AE has a holistic approach to ministry with a primary focus on evangelism.

Indigenous (African) - AE was founded in Africa in 1961 and continues to be led by Africans.

Cities - The cities of Africa are strategic. The cities of Africa need hope. The cities of Africa have been and will remain AE’s primary focus.

Partnership - Like no other ministry in Africa, we are committed to seeing the whole church working together, to promote the gospel and effectively

disciple new Christians. The key to reaching any city is facilitating partnership between the churches. Consequently a central value in any AE initiative is working to bring churches together.

PAN AFRICAN MISSIONIvory Coast

African Enterprise facilitated a leadership mission in September 2014. The power of God was tangible as the mission commenced and many people came to the knowledge of Christ during high level leadership meetings. Ten strategic meetings were held in six days, each one aimed at reaching top leaders. The theme for the events was: “Nation Building; Essentials of leadership in times of change.”

The city’s top lawyers, doctors, university professors, media, business leaders, civil servants, women leaders, youth leaders and military and church leaders were personally invited to these meetings. Speakers passionately encouraged them about the vital role that they play as leaders in Ivorian society... and their ability to influence positive change. Each group was challenged to stand for truth and be a role model for peace.

PEACE FROM WITHINresponding to the Tragedy in South Sudan

Shortly after the crisis began between the Dinka and the Nuer tribes in South Sudan, African Enterprise was on the ground facilitating peace and ministering to those who have been hurt or displaced by the violence.

In April 2014 as the violence began to settle a team from AE held a peace and reconciliation workshop in the capital city of Juba in South Sudan. They were encouraged to forgive and seek reconciliation with their fellow countrymen and seek to resolve conflict through dialogue rather than violence. The workshops were attended by senior military and government officials, students, women, and church leaders. Trauma counselling was also offered to those deeply affected by violence.

AE also partnered with the United Bible Society in holding peace talks in Ghana with South Sudanese legislators. Once on neutral territory leaders were able to share on the complex issues that led to war and their personal dreams and aspirations for their nation.

As the violence continues in some areas and with nearly 1.5 million people displaced, AE will continue to facilitate peace from within. AE will continue working with leaders training them in leading peace and reconciliation in their own communities.How can the world’s youngest country

unravel so quickly? That was the question on many of our minds as we watched the violence unfold in South Sudan. Deep seated hatred and old wounds rose to the surface in bloody battles that spanned the country.

AE WEEKWOMEN'S "FEMININE HEART" STM

Each year we encourage supporters to partner with us in promoting the AE message to their own communities. This can be as simple as having a dinner at home and inviting friends over to hear first-hand why you support AE. Others have held fund-raising dinners at their churches which we support by supplying promotional materials and a suitable DVD for the night.

We promote these activities around the end of August because we target this time of the year for the release of new promotional material. Those who held dinners this year reported having a wonderful time and some have offered to repeat the activity at different times throughout the year.

This Short Term Mission was another exciting first as 17 women from various churches in Victoria and NSW combined to meet and pour their lives into the women from a few of the many AE projects targeting women in East Africa. For many of these women it was the first time they had engaged with AE and the first time they had been to Africa. The benefits for both the Australian women and the African women were immediately obvious from the very first meeting.

The experiences these women enjoyed are being retold in their churches and family circles and continue to produce wonderful levels of support for the on-going work in Africa. We hope to repeat this type of mission for supporters in the future and encourage those interested to begin dreaming and praying to that end.

STEPHEN MBOGOENOCH PHIRI

Occupying the role of International CEO, previously held by both Michael Cassidy and Stephen Lungu, Stephen is largely unknown to Australian supporters so it was gratifying to see the way he was accepted and embraced by supporters everywhere.

In both Sydney & Melbourne, Stephen spent quality time with Sudanese and Kenyan pastors now working in Australia. Many of them have suffered greatly for their faith and recognised Stephen as a man of compassion and prayer as well as a great statesmen. It has become apparent that we need to give more space to developing these connections with a view to strengthening the support we receive in Australia through the African community.

No sooner had Enoch landed in Sydney than he was whisked away and driven up the coast to visit and speak in a wide range of churches that had never heard about AE before.

His ministry and presentation of the Afri-can Enterprise mission won the hearts of supporters and potential supporters in Taree, in Port Macquarie, in several retirement villages throughout the region and in a local Christian High School. It became evident that Enoch was deeply moved by his time with a local Indige-nous community church. Our visiting Team Leaders love any contact they have with Indigenous Australians and we have always found they are well received and their ministry is deeply appreciated.

Enoch travelled through regional NSW presenting African Enterprise in Dubbo, Molong and Orange. In Molong Enoch met and prayed with a farming couple who have been supporting AE since they heard about our ministry through Bishop Festo many years ago. Taking the time to visit them was a highlight for all of us and a chance for Enoch to visit a real sheep farm. God worked things out ahead of us everywhere we turned with unexpected meetings, accommodation, safe travel and favour with the locals.

HONG KONG WITH STEPHEN

Hong Kong was a most rewarding and encouraging experience, seeing a deepening of relationships, increased funding, a number of new people signing up to AE, additional volunteers, linking with Africans passionate about the gospel in Africa, the genesis of a HK AE prayer group and linking with many recent strategic referrals (which have now led to further referrals). During this tour Stephen preached at the Evangelical Community Church (3 services), Vine Church and Spring Church (2 services) as well as holding church meetings with Island Community Church and Shatin Church. We are grateful to all who served with Stephen and for his powerful ministry in Australia and Hong Kong.

“Life has never been very easy for me. I left home as soon as I was old enough with the hope of making a better life for myself. I was able to get a job in a small market, but I soon found that the wages were not enough to support myself and my family back home. I began working in prostitution after work to make extra money. I always knew that what was happening in my life was not right. I felt an emptiness within me but I pushed the feeling aside. One evening I was going home from my job at the market when I saw a huge crowd of people at an

open air meeting being preached to by uniformed police officers! I was shocked by the sight so I stopped to listen. The preacher talked of many things but I honestly cannot recall much; all I was thinking about was my own life and how I had rejected God. The preacher said Jesus was the only one able to take away all our cares and heavy burdens. “Even mine?” I asked from within me. I suddenly realized that this police officer-turned preacher, was describing me! When the preacher called forward all those who wanted to receive Jesus as their personal saviour,

the voice within me said, ‘it is the time to let Jesus take over.’ I am a different person now; the craving for money has disappeared and I am committed to my work at the market. I am grateful to those police officers who preached at that open air meeting, to the follow-up team here at Deliverance Church where I now attend church and a weekly discipleship course. Thank you for coming to my town and telling me about Jesus. You’ve saved my life and I have been changed forever.”(New Believer, reflecting on the Isiolo Mission in Kenya, July 2014)

• Rwanda – Muhanga Mission for

Jesus: 22,924 reached, 1158 came

to the Lord Jesus; Celebrating Life University Mission: 23,000 reached, 5300 commitments.

• Ghana – Mankessim Mission: 12,567 reached, 1922 came to the Lord Jesus.

• Ethiopia – Northwestern Universities Mission, Bahir Dar, Debre Markos: Reached over 7000 youth across campuses with more than 200 giving their lives to the Lord.

• Kenya – Isiolo Mission: 57,198 reached, 2992 commitments.

• DRC – Matadi Rise and Shine for Christ: 6347 people heard the gospel with more than 300 making a decision to follow Jesus.

“Years ago African Enterprise came to a prison where I was serving my sentence. At that time I was a Muslim but because of the love of Christ shown to me I couldn’t resist and dedicated my life to the Lord. Today I am a local pastor and I have been ministering in the Kauma slum area for many years. Again AE has come into my life and shown me such good things! This mission has opened my eyes to see that the harvest is ripe in Kauma. I feel re-energised in my ministry here. We will be continuing the work begun here at this mission. “

Through your prayers and financial support, together… WE CAN deliver this training, under God’s wonderful provision.

Through AE in partnership with Moore College, students are able to access theological training. Church leaders and pastors from Australia volunteer their time and resources to visit nations in Africa. These Church leaders train large classrooms of keen scholars from most Christian denominations. This theological training is used to equip pastors, lay missionaries and church leaders across Africa. Building the church and transforming Africa! In 2014 courses were run in Malawi, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Rwanda.

South Africaexpanded their ministry around the country bringing almost 3000 to the Lord.

Julian Yon, Foxfire Director in South Africa shares: “we have seen God doing truly remarkable things this year amongst our young people. Through our programmes many young people have come into relationship with Christ, been set free from addiction and been mobilised for mission. In addition to this, school leaders have been trained and are now better equipped to deal with the demands of their leadership roles.”

He felt hopeless and wanted to kill himself but has now made peace with God and himself. He also wants to make peace with his family. God’s love transforms and heals!”

Foxfire Ministries - Youth


KENYA – PROCLAIMED THE GOSPEL TO TENS OF THOUSANDS WITH 4000 PEOPLE MAKING COMMITMENTS.

MalawiAlmost 5000 young people made commitments to follow Christ.

Wellington Chataika was leader of the team, he said: “This year has been full of adventure and challenges. The Lord has worked through us and with us. Although we faced challenges in the areas of finance and transport we were still able to meet many for Christ. We look forward to many more miracles from God through Foxfires.”

Africa is a continent of young people, with 70 percent of the population under 25 years of age. Tragically, far too many of these

future leaders are being led into the destructive lives of sexual promiscuity, drugs, alcohol and violent behaviour. AE’s Foxfire

Youth Evangelists are extremely effective in helping young people break free from this bondage. – In 2014 over 12,000 lives were transformed by Jesus through the efforts of the Foxfire Teams.

ZimbabweMany young people reached for Christ.

Foxfire Team Leader, Gardner Moyo recalls one of the memorable moments of 2014: “ In 2014 the Foxfires did what they were called to do, setting the fields ablaze and bringing deliverance to God’s children with the Gospel of the Lord. A rural Chief visited Harare as part of a country-wide Chief’s conference hosted at one of the High Schools. Our Foxfire team was asked to lead the devotion. The Chief was so impressed with them that he invited them to come and perform in his village. A large crowd gathered in the village presided over by Chief Mrobe in the district of Mwenezi about 500 km from Harare. This was truly a great moment and an inspiring opportunity. The response to the Foxfires ministry was overwhelming and 164 people gave their lives to the Lord that day.”

LEADERSHIP TRAINING IN ETHIOPIAthrough Student DiscipleshipThe Student Discipleship Program is curriculum based discipleship training. It focuses on the next generation of Christian leaders targeting students from Grade 5 through to university level. The training focuses on understanding basic Christianity to evangelism and Christian ethics. This leadership development program will contribute towards developing next-generation servant-leaders who follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. This program has been facilitated by AE since 2003, discipling the next gene-ration. In 2014 some 15,000 students were trained throughout the country. In 2014 the program focused on decentralising the student leadership seminars so that many more students could be involved in the training and at the same time build capacity in these outer regions to run these Leadership

Programs themselves. The seminars were held in Nazareth and Bahir Dar in August. Eighty students attended from different cities in the country.

A new generation of evangelists is being prepared who will be responsible for the expansion of the gospel in Ethiopia in the coming decades. Through this program the importance of discipleship is now better understood by churches across Ethiopia. It is seen as an integral component of evangelism and as an indispensable platform for spiritual growth of the youth. Pastors and church leaders testify to its positive effect in reviving weekly youth programs and integrating the youth into the full body of the church. As a result of this partnership between AE and the Church, local churches are being strengthened.

Pastor Fekadu Derbie leads the Akaki Kale Hiwot Church in Addis Ababa. He has been teaching the discipleship courses in his church for the past 7 years. He has very high regard for the Student Discipleship Program and offered this feedback: “I have been a full time minister of this church for 15 years. We are very glad to partner with AE in its Discipleship Program. I regularly teach this program in my church. The courses are foundational, biblical and contextualized. Text books are presented with clarity; relevant to the youth and essential to their maturity. We have adopted this discipleship program as

our church program for spiritual development of our youth. We consider it as the backbone to our church in the area of Christian education and discipleship. We have seen encouraging fruits in the past 7 years. Students who have undertaken this program are now well equipped to defend the faith and resilient in dealing with adversities when they join college and university. Some have become evangelists and church leaders. The youth highly value the program and set aside one month in the summer for it. I see that AE is greatly benefiting the next generation and building tomorrow’s church.”

Ghana Apprenticeship Project

Rehabilitated 61 youth through mentorship, with 20 making decisions for Christ.Most of the children were school dropouts. They had very little hope for the future but thanks be to God it was restored to them. We have testimonies of some of the students who have started to go to church through this project. Graham was one such young man. He had dropped out of school and was running a wayward life with friends but is now doing well through learning a trade. He has promised his mother he is going to live for Christ. Graham was learning Computer skills.

Tanzania HIV and AIDS Project

Reached over 17,000 children with over 8000 commitments to Christ. They also trained 324 teachers and 232 Student Peer Leaders with over 370 of these leaders making commitments to Christ.


The HIV/AIDS Education program in Magu District of Tanzania is one such holistic project. By training and equipping young leaders and raising them up as peer educators in the area of HIV and AIDS we have been able to reach thousands of young people. These peer educators have embraced this training and passionately transfer valuable truths to their peers. The integration of biblical principles and HIV and AIDS messages have led many young people to Christ and to

a more enlightened understanding of the Gospel message of purity. On a practical level not only have they had a spiritual awakening but through this project the number of teenage pregancies has drastically reduced from 56 cases in 2007 to just 20 in 2011.

Our holistic approach to ministry focuses on the spiritual, social, economic, physical and emotional needs of Africans. This truly is God’s love in action!

Her Testimony.The education provided by this program has reduced stigma and discrimination among school children with regards to HIV and AIDS. Young students are now more confident in explaining their feelings and emotions to school teachers. There is now a more loving and accepting atmosphere amongst the children. The students who previously used fear and discrimination towards orphans are now more loving and sympathetic. Parents are now more comfortable talking to their young children about HIV and AIDS. We have also seen a change in behaviour as a result of this programme in regards to relationships and sex before marriage.


Mary was forced to flee from her home in South Sudan when the violence broke out. She fled to Kakuma Refugee Camp in northwestern Kenya which now hosts approximately 166,000 people all looking for safety. The camp is overcrowded with 16,000 above its capacity and many more arriving every day. “When I arrived at the camp I was so relieved to be somewhere safe. I soon found out that the camps were infested with mosquitoes and other dangerous insects and we had no mosquito nets or blankets.

Kauma refugee camp in northwestern KenyaAE sent a team to supply people with much needed mosquito nets and blankets. We also supplied the children with books and shoes. During the 3 days we visited the camp we ministered to over 7000 refugees making sure they had these much needed supplies. Pastor Thomas from a local Christian church shared: “What a great example of the love of Christ. The shoes and books for the children is an answer to prayer. The camp is full of thorny bushes and the children often injure their feet opening them up to infection and disease.”

AE was one of the first on the ground after violence broke out in South Sudan. Bringing peace to this promising but troubled nation was a priority.

In May 2014 one of the top priorities was ministering to the many in refugee camps as a direct result of the conflict.

Rhino Refugee Camp in Northern UgandaRhino camp has 16,740 refugees. The camp is located just over 60km east of Arua. With your valued support AE Uganda was able to secure blankets, clothes, soap, sanitary pads, buckets, gumboots and sanitary gloves. These were much needed items gratefully received by camp leaders.

AE also visited camps in Juba to administer much needed supplies and relief.
