After School Opportunities for Youth at PhillyCAM

Youth Programs at PhillyCAMTo support and embrace youth voices we created PhillyCAM’s Tech Lounge. The Tech Lounge is an open creative laboratory that brings together the youth of Philadelphia to make and share media that promotes creative expression, forward thinking and community participation. The Tech Lounge benefits young people and by extension the larger Philadelphia community by providing much needed quality after-school activities, job training, and internship opportunities. We offer instruction on basic storytelling, scriptwriting, video production and media literacy. Our students learn to access, analyze, create and share digital media content with thoughtfulness and social responsibility.

Activity OpportunitiesWe offer after school media-making activities, special production workshops and internship opportunities year round.

• Our after school activities are offered once a week, allowing students to explore different media tools, genres and techniques.

• We also have a special production workshop that is a multi-week, registration required, hands-on training opportunity for students to learn specific skills in a project-based environment.

• We do provide non-paid internships for High School students 3 times each year by application.

Membership InfoThe cost for student membership is $15. Students can attend two after school sessions before committing to membership with PhillyCAM. Students pay our standard membership fee to attend production workshops at PhillyCAM. *If Educational Organizations or Institutions are interested in joining PhillyCAM as a member, the rate is based on a sliding scale depending on your budget. Organizational members receive 10 free Youth Memberships as a result of their membership.

As the non-profit membership organization designated by the City of Philadelphia to operate its public access television station, PhillyCAM assists individuals and organizations to communicate with each other through the creation and distribution of non-commercial media by providing access to media-making tools, training and opportunities for interaction between diverse communities.
