TRANSITION: One year to the next; Aggie Musicians expect the bestMusic of Genesis to kick off the new school year

W i t h s t r a i n s o f P o m p a n d Circumstance still ringing in our ears, we happily bid the 2014-15 school year adieu, and welcome the coming year with great fervor! Here’s a quick look at all the accomplishments from this school year:• Congratulations to the Middle School

Band who have earned Second Division marks at District Band Festival for six years in a row!

• Our High School Concert Band earned First Division marks at District Band Festival for the third consecutive year, unmatched in BCPS history! And

add to that, the FIRST DIVISION at State Band Festival - the first ever!

• The Marching Aggies received their second Second Division rating at Marching Band Festival, receiving a First Division in the General Effect category!

• Three middle school students - Emma Licina, Elizabeth Powell and Noel Schafer - participated in Middle School Solo & Ensemble Festival, receiving a First Division and Second Divisions, respectively. Excellent work by some fine young ladies!

• Our high school students sent 15 events to District Solo & Ensemble in Owosso; and eight more to State Solo

& Ensemble in East Lansing. Excellent per formances by hard -work ing students!

undertaking by the Marching Aggies in the fall season: The Music of Genesis.

Genesis is a pivotal and important rock group that hales from southern England. Most Americans are familiar with the Phil Collins-fronted trio of musicians that made hits such as “Invisible Touch,” “That’s All” and “I Can’t Dance” in the late 80s and early 90s. They started, however, as a songwriting collective in the very late 1960s and became an avant-garde musical force with incredible storytelling and bizarre costuming as they built a following in the 1970s. Our students watched a documentary “The Genesis Songbook” at the end of May to familiarize themselves with the music.

The Marching Aggies will highlight music from both eras, the songwriting collective and the pop-oriented trio, covering the hits “Turn It On Again,” “Invisible Touch,” “In The Cage,’ “The Musical Box,” “Mama,” “Throwing It All Away,” and “Follow You Follow Me.” Participating students should accept the invitation to the Google Classroom set up specifically for the Marching Aggies to hear the arrangements.

Also, much sight-reading was done in the waning moments of the 2014-15 school year, investigating new concert literature to study. Several important choices were made including “Aventura” by James Swearingen and “Nathan Hale Trilogy” by James Curnow for the

Concert Band and “Hyperion Overture“ by Anne McGinty and “Modal Song and Dance” by Elliot Del Borgo for the Middle School Band.

DESTINATION: The City of Brotherly Love

As voted upon by students and TEMPO Club Executive Board, our High School Concert and Jazz Band will travel to Philadelphia in the Spring of 2016. A couple of things have changed since the original packet of information was published of which families should be aware:

• Due to unforeseen circumstances in the Philadelphia area, we need to move our trip a week earlier to April 20-24, 2016

• Due to the move in dates, there is a slight increase in cost at this time. However, we may be able to offset that through some fundraising efforts and increased participation.

We have more students interested in participating on this trip than in years past, and many more parents interested in chaperoning. This should be a great experience!

You would be listed in our Marching Aggie Invitational and Band-Tastic program as a Band Week Lunch Sponsor.

HydrationWe have submitted a request to Ice Mountain Bottled Water for a supply of water during Band Week. We may need assistance retrieving that water. Or we may need assistance procuring water for the band during band week and then at subsequent games. Contact Mr Lowe for more information and your opportunity to help!

2015-16 INITIATIVES

Equipment Trailer Many programs our size have

purchased an equipment trailer to haul the accompanying equipment the band has to its various events, performances and festivals. To date, we have been for tunate to use Rod Cole’s t r a i l e r . However, Mr. Cole no longer has a student in the program and it would make sense to purchase one for our exclusive use. Costs on these trailers run between $2000-2700. If you have connections on such a purchase or have funding options, please contact Mr. Lowe.

Marching PercussionOur current marching

percussion equipment is, at l e a s t , 2 0 y e a r s o l d . Purchasing a complete new marching drumline would cost approximately $8000-10000. P l e a s e b e l o o k i n g f o r crowdfunding opportunities connected with this initiative or contact Mr. Lowe for ways you can help.

Ford Test Drive EventIn partnership with the Beal City

Education Foundation, the Beal City TEMPO Club will be co-sponsoring a Ford Drive 4 UR School event. This will be held on either Friday, September 11 or Friday, September 25 before the home football game scheduled for that evening. Be sure to watch for information on how you can help by either hosting or driving!

Alumni Support ClubIf you are interested in the formation

of a tiered-membership support club, akin to PBS membership, for the Beal City Bands, please contact Ron Schafer.

He has an idea of creating a group to spearhead large initiatives, to reconnect band members from other eras and to create a supplementary support network for TEMPO.
