Phase 2-to where we are now…

After being settled as RecPlex for a few years and being quite successful, it

became difficult for the Lester Family to keep up with the facility and all of its

requirements and updates. It is very understandable to sense a feeling of loss for this

family as they had worked non-stop to give Bobby his dream and now found themselves

in a position to decide whether or not to keep the doors open. They had created a great

foundation but unfortunately in 2004/2005, it was announced to the public that RecPlex

would be closing its doors. When this was announced, it became hard for the people in

the County to comprehend that a facility such as the RecPlex, that served a communities

needs so well, that it would have to see its doors shut. It was at this time, the original

board of directors of PEFAC came together with the Lester family and decided to do

whatever possible to keep the doors open. This building truly encompasses the ideals of

“community” as we can see from its roots and its journey to becoming PEFAC. It is now,

that we celebrate Bobby Lester’s dream another 10 years and we want to thank

everyone who has been a part of RecPlex and PEFAC, as without you, we would not be

here. You have all had a great impact on who we are and hope that you will continue

your support in helping us carry on the dream of Bobby Lester and the Lester Family for

years to come.

Starting Monday September 14th, we will be having a HUGE celebration

OPEN HOUSE week with different activities and draws to be had each

day. Please see below for more information!

RECAP FROM PART 1… In the last newsletter, we had an insight into how PEFAC started out and where the original dream to open a

community facility came from. We were introduced to Bobby Lester, son of Doug Sr and Jean Lester. As a young boy,

Bobby had always wanted to see a community Pool come to the County that would allow for leisure and safe

swimming lessons for children all year round. It was after Bobby’s passing at the age of 14, that the Lester family

decided to make Bobby’s dream a reality as RecPlex. After a lot of dedication and hard work, RecPlex was opened in

the Fall of 1986. Please continue reading below for the continuation of Part 1-“to where we are now…”

Again, a huge thank you goes out to the Lester Family for their dream, ambition, dedication and continual support for

without all of that, we would not be here today to serve the County and its Health and Wellness needs.
