AGBIZ 2014 CONGRESS :: STUDENTS
The Agricultural Business Chamber hosted a student promotion project during
the Agbiz Congress 2014. 16 top students from 6 recognized universities in South Africa were selected to participate. Department heads from the
respective universities (UKZN, UP, UFH, UFS, NWU and US) were asked to select top students who deserve this unique experience. Agribusinesses came
on board to sponsor the individual students to realize this opportunity.
Students had the opportunity to attend the Congress, and was tasked to participate in a student case competition. Hereby they could showcase their
talent and meet agribusiness leaders from different spheres of the industry to create networks, which they will treasure throughout their careers.
These students were asked to provide us with a 2-pager CV. These CV’s were
collated into this document for your use. Agbiz is hereby merely providing agribusiness with a brief introduction to the students. Anyone is welcome to
contact them directly for more information or detailed CV’s, or for future contact.

HERMAN LOMBARD- CURRICULUM VITAE I, Herman Lombard, matriculated from Newcastle High School in 2008. In 2009 I registered for B.Sc Quantity Surveying at the University of the Free State however I realised with my roots on the farm my heart was with in agriculture as it has always been my passion. In the second semester of 2009 I registered for B.Sc Animal Science and Agricultural Economics.
During my final year of pre-graduate study in 2012, an opportunity was presented to me to work as a Research Assistant in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of the Free State. I saw the potential of the opportunity and decided to continue my full time studies in Honours in Agricultural Economics while still working part time as a Research Assistant. This granted me the opportunity to be involved in multiple research projects as well as the writing of articles, gaining valuable industry insight and exposing myself in the industry. Later that year the Free State Red Meat Producers Organisation (RPO) approached me to serve on their managing committee. I joined and was exposed to even more research opportunities.
In 2013 and 2014 I stayed on as an assistant in the department in order to stay visible to the industry, I assisted in projects, tutoring and helped out with lecturing. In conjunction with the National RPO, I am currently doing my Masters thesis on price transmission of red meat. I believe I can add valuable information to the limited knowledge pool of this topic.

Resume of Christian Schlotfeldt (1992-10-27)
Having grown up on an extensive cattle farm in South Africa, I have developed a passion for commercial agriculture and the environment within which it operates, especially in Africa.
I am currently in my final year of study, which concludes in November 2014. Being fresh from University, I am independent and unattached and thus I have a strong will to travel a lot and to work in all regions of Africa. Southern Africa has always interested me, and I am keen to get to know the region better in terms of its Languages, Economies, Agricultural sectors and people etc. I enjoy working and co-operating with people, whilst I also function very well on my own.
Having grown up in South Africa and also travelled the region somewhat, I have a relatively good understanding of the African ways of doing business and have also gained significant insight into such ways from working as a student at agricultural operations in South Africa, Mozambique and Zambia. Working as an intern at Lemken GmbH in Alpen, Germany (2013) has given me the opportunity to learn more about the European way of doing business, and I find the two different environments highly interesting.
For secondary schooling I attended a Technical High School (that is from Grade 8-12), and from the farm I have a basic yet broad understanding for the mechanical side of agricultural machinery. Thus I can say that I have a large interest in the practical, technical and economic sides of agriculture.
Thus to summarise, I am keen to travel and work throughout Africa and feel I have an understanding of doing business in Africa, and I truly would like to work within the agricultural sector on the continent. I have a passion for three things: Africa, Agriculture and Progress.
