On Monday afternoon, EP President David Sassoli will take part in a high-level conference to take stock of the EU-UK talks, together with Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Council President Charles Michel and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Parliament will debate the topic on Wednesday afternoon, with a resolution being adopted on Thursday, followed by a press conference. Anti-racism protests/George Floyd. MEPs will start the session with a debate on the anti-racism protests following the death of George Floyd. His death, along with other such cases, has sparked demonstrations and protests against racism and police brutality all over the US, as well as around the globe. (Wednesday, adoption of resolution Friday) Summit/EU recovery plan. Ahead of the 19 June EU meeting of heads of state or government, MEPs will convey their stance on future EU financing and economic recovery in the context of the COVID-19 fallout on Wednesday. A media webinar on the topic with high-level speakers including Cohesion and Reforms Commissioner Elisa Ferreira will take place on Tuesday afternoon. Conference on the Future of Europe. Parliament will vote on a resolution calling for the launch of the Conference on the Future of Europe to take place as soon as possible after the summer and to take on board the challenges exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. (debate Wednesday, adoption resolution Thursday) Schengen border controls. MEPs will discuss ways and means to lift border controls and related travel restrictions and are set to demand that internal borders be swiftly reopened and free movement re-established. A press conference is scheduled for Thursday (debate Thursday, adoption of resolution Friday). Disinformation/Fundamental rights. MEPs will discuss the effects of fighting the spread of COVID-19 on fundamental rights in the EU as well as the impact of disinformation campaigns by foreign actors trying to exploit uncertainty in society and people’s fears (Thursday) COVID-19 impact on foreign policy. The situation in the European neighbourhood, Africa and the Middle East as well as relations with the US, China and Russia will be the focus of a debate with EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell (Thursday) Strategic industries. Parliament will debate plans to shield European industries weakened by the COVID-19 crisis and ways to protect strategic industries from foreign takeovers (Wednesday). Green finance. Parliament is set to adopt new rules that lay down six environmental objectives and allow economic activity to be labelled as environmentally sustainable if it contributes to at least one of them without significantly harming any of the others (vote Thursday). 1/21
