The thing becomes a different thing. Its identity is lost.

In a transformation . . .

It serves a different purpose

s

It’s sometimes surprising, unexpected

It often involves magic or a spell

s

And it goes really fast!

It can be scary

s

It’s something that happens to you

On the other hand . . .

conjures up a different story

We usually have a choice

We sort of know what to expect

Yes, it’s a mess

s

And it’s inconvenient

We’re making the work visible

s

We have contractors helping us

We have a sense that it’s all about making things better. In agile, that’s the whole point.

Why always matters

Grandma’s houses

So what does this mean for the group, back in the work place?

Understand current rhythm

- 4 people (1 BA, 1 DEV, 1 TESTER, 1 TIMER) - BA controls the balls - BA takes a ball from the basket, bounces it on the table to DEV.- DEV catches the ball, bounces it on the table to TESTER- TESTER bounces the ball on the table to BA. - BA puts the ball on the basket - Meanwhile, BA has started with another ball- Continue for ONE MINUTE- TIMER keeps track of the time it takes to move all the balls into the basket

Exercise 1

Love this rhythm?!! How long did it take to find the rhythm?Did any ball drop?

We’re doing ATDD baby!!

- 4 people from each table (1 BA, 1 DEV, 1 TESTER, 1 TIMER). - BA controls balls. - BA takes a ball from the basket, bounces it on the table to TESTER.- TESTER catches the ball, bounces it on the table to DEV- DEV bounces the ball on the table back to TESTER. - TESTER puts the ball on the basket - Meanwhile BA takes another ball with the right hand, passes to his left hand moving it

behind his back, and then bounce it to TESTER. - Continue for ONE MINUTE!- TIMER keeps track of the time it takes to move all the balls into the basket

Exercise 2

How is this new rhythm?!! How long did it take to figure out new rhythm? How many balls drop?

So what does this mean for you, back in the work place?

• Language matters

• Show the “Why?”

• Don’t scare people

• Set realistic expectations

• Take the familiar into the future

• Give people choices

s

Don’t try this at home
