INTRODUCTION

This document describes how to setup and use Microsoft Virtual PC for the purpose of exploring AgilePoint in a pre-configured, single-server environment optimized for evaluation functions. IMPORTANT: It is very important to read the Resources and Materials section below before beginning your AgilePoint Virtual PC Discovery, it describes how we intend you to begin the discovery and provides step by step instructions for getting started.

If you have received the AgilePoint Virtual PC in DVD format, you will need to download WinRAR in order to extract the Virtual Hard Drive files. First, copy the files from the two DVDs into the same folder on your machine. Then use WinRAR to extract the Part 1, it will automatically extract Part 2, 3, etc… as well, so you will not need to touch the other parts. Once you have extracted these files, you can delete the .rar files to conserve space, and you can copy the other items from the outside of Part 2 folder to this same folder. Your folder should look similar to this:

Before opening the Virtual PC, explore the materials that have been included outside the Virtual PC first, such as the documents in the AgilePoint Documentations folder, and the videos in the AgilePoint Videos folder. Watch the AgilePoint Video Demonstrations and try simulating a similar exercise on your own using AgilePoint on the Virtual PC. Once you are familiar with the AgilePoint suite, you can start to access Process Templates, source code in sample applications, or work to build your own applications in this extensible Virtual PC environment.

WHAT IS INSTALLED ON THE VIRTUAL PC

The Virtual PC contains the following materials:

DemoVPC47P0H1_006.vhd. This is the AgilePoint Hard Disk Virtual PC environment where AgilePoint is installed. It contains the following components:

o Microsoft SQL Server 2008

o Microsoft Office 2007, including Visio and InfoPath

o Microsoft Visual Studio 2008

o AgilePoint Server

DemoVPC47P0H1_006.vmc. This is the AgilePoint Virtual Machine Settings File needed to run AgilePoint on the Virtual PC.

NOTE: The software licenses that are used on the VPC are covered under Ascentn’s Gold Certified ISV Partner program with Microsoft and are for development, training, and evaluation purposes only.

INSTALLING MICROSOFT VIRTUAL PC

If Microsoft Virtual PC is not installed on your machine, you will need to install it in order to open the AgilePoint environment. Download Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 from the Microsoft Web site here:

VERIFY VIRTUAL PC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

To run Microsoft Virtual PC on your machine, you will need to meet certain hardware and software requirements. The following are the basic system requirements:

Supported Operating Systems Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition

Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition

Windows Vista Business, Enterprise, Ultimate

Windows XP Professional

Processor AMD Athlon/Duron, Intel Celeron, Intel Pentium II, Intel Pentium III, Intel Pentium 4, Intel Core Duo, and Intel Core2 Duo

Processor Speed An x64-based or an x86-based computer with 1 GHz recommended processor with L2 cache

RAM Besides the RAM requirement for the host operating system that you will be using, at least an extra 2GB is recommended to run the Virtual PC for optimal performance. A machine with 3GB – 4GB RAM will be OK.

Hard Disk Space A virtual hard disk image (.vhd) file is commonly about 20GB – 30GB. It is recommended to store it in a physical external disk, and run it from there.

Required Software Microsoft Virtual PC 2007





INSTALLATION

1. Install Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 using the Setup executable file.

2. If you have an external USB hard drive that includes the AgilePoint materials plug that in, if you have all the AgilePoint materials on the host machine that is fine too.

3. Launch Virtual PC by clicking Start > Programs > Microsoft Virtual PC. The Virtual PC Console window appears.

4. Click New. The New Virtual Machine Wizard page appears.

5. Click Next.

6. Select the Add an existing virtual machine option button and click Next.

7. Browse and select the AgilePointBPMS.vmc file from the USB Drive/host machine and click Next.

8. Check the option to open Settings and click Finish to complete. The Settings window appears.



CONFIGURATION SETTINGS

Due to the intensive memory consumption nature of the Virtual PC, it is recommended that your computer is equipped with at least 2 GB of physical RAM. This will allocate enough memory for running the Virtual PC. Meeting these requirements will ensure smooth performance while running AgilePoint BPM applications on the Virtual PC.

To specify the amount of RAM to be allocated for running the Virtual PC, select the Memory option in the Setting for AgilePoint dialog. Specify the RAM setting and click OK to continue. A higher amount of memory allocation is preferred. If you receive an error due to not enough memory when trying to launch the Virtual PC, you may need to adjust this memory setting down in order for your machine to be able to run the Virtual PC. The recommended minimum memory setting for the Virtual PC is 1028 MB (1500 MB is preferred).



Another setting that you will need to configure is the Networking value in order to establish network and Internet connectivity. Choose the correct Network Adaptor from the list as shown below. In most cases, this is the same Network Adaptor that is used on your local machine.



RUNNING THE VIRTUAL PC

1. Start up the Virtual PC using the Virtual PC Console by selecting the newly created virtual machine and clicking Start.

2. Once you get your AgilePoint Virtual PC started, right-Alt + Del and log in as administrator with the password pass.

NOTE: If your host OS is Windows Vista, you may encounter the following error that may prevent you from starting up the Virtual PC because of the file’s ownership.

Perform the following steps to correct the error:



a. Logon to an account that has administrative privileges.

b. Browse and select the DemoVPC47P0H1_006.vhd file from the USB Drive/host machine.

c. Right Click on the file and choose Properties from the context menu.

d. Click Security tab, you will see the following screen.

e. On the Security tab, click on Advanced button and then click Owner tab



f. In the Owner tab, click on Edit… button to change the ownership of the file to your account and click Apply.



ACTIVATING AGILEPOINT ON THE VIRTUAL PC

1. Once you get your AgilePoint Virtual PC started, right-Alt + Del and log in as administrator with the password pass, you should see a desktop similar to the following:

AgilePoint may already be activated for you. You can verify this by clicking Start > Programs > Ascentn > AgilePoint Server Configuration. If the Activation Wizard appears, the product is not activated and you should follow the steps below. If the AgilePoint Server Configuration utility appears the product is already activated and you can skip the activation steps below.

NOTE: If the product has not been activated, you should have received AgilePoint Evaluation License Keys for AgilePoint Server, AgilePoint Envision, and AgilePoint Developer to activate these components on your Virtual PC. These Evaluation License Keys generally last between 30-90 days. If you have not already received Evaluation License Keys, you will need to request them to be sent to you by emailing [email protected]. Please include in the subject line “AgilePoint Evaluation License Key Request”, also include your name, company, and version of AgilePoint.




ACTIVATING AGILEPOINT SERVER

1. Double-click on the AgilePoint Server Configuration icon on the Virtual PC desktop to invoke the activation screen.

2. Please make sure that there is no space at the beginning and the end of the license key in order to activate successfully.

3. Click Next to complete the activation via the Internet.

If you are not able to activate over the Internet, check the Virtual PC Networking settings as detailed above and try activating again. If you are unable to establish a connection, you will need to perform a manual activation, please see Knowledge Base article http://kb.ascentn.com/KB/article.aspx?id=10217 for more information.

ACTIVATING AGILEPOINT ENVISION

1. Double-click on the AgilePoint Envision icon on the Virtual PC desktop to invoke the activation screen.


3. Click Next to complete the activation via the Internet.


ACTIVATING AGILEPOINT DEVELOPER

1. Double-click on the AgilePoint Developer icon on the Virtual PC desktop to invoke the activation screen. The Visual Studio flash screen will appear.


3. Click Next to complete the activation over the Internet.

WORKING WITHIN THE VIRTUAL PC

IMPORTANT NOTE: It is highly recommended not to change the VPC name as it will cause problems with several of the components.

GENERAL GUIDANCE

KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS

While working with Virtual PC, you will find the following keyboard shortcuts helpful:

Right-Alt + Enter - Used to toggle full-screen mode

Right-Alt + Del - Same as Ctrl + Alt + Del in your host environment

TROUBLESHOOTING

SHAREPOINT SHOWS ERROR UPON INITIAL LAUNCH

Sometimes when opening SharePoint especially for the first time, you receive an error. This is probably due to a performance issue within the VPC where SharePoint times out before the page loads. If you have this problem, try adjusting the Timeout Settings for the SharePoint Web Site via IIS as shown below. Somewhere around 600 should solve this issue.



SHUTTING DOWN THE VIRTUAL PC

When you stop the Virtual PC (such as shutting down your system), try selecting the Save State and Save Changes option instead of Turn Off or Shut Down. Save State will enable you to restart the VPC next time a lot faster and all cached pages are saved.


DEFAULT USERS

On the Virtual PC in the Demo Users folder, the following user accounts have been created for you. They are used in the various demonstrations for providing user simulation capabilities. You can use these user accounts to access the AgilePoint products and integration components or create new user accounts for your own customized environment. Other user accounts not in list may also be included in the Virtual PC environment and can be used in the Demo scenarios. The following table is the list of pre-defined users and their corresponding passwords.

LOGGING INTO AGILEPOINT ENTERPRISE MANAGER

To login to AgilePoint Enterprise Manager, click the AgilePoint Enterprise Manager shortcut on

the desktop. When logging into Enterprise Manager, the user name is Administrator, and the

password is pass.



RESOURCES AND MATERIALS

This is a very important section to follow closely as it provides step-by-step instructions for getting started with working with the resources and materials included within the AgilePoint Virtual PC environment. The demos included provide a set of common AgilePoint application scenarios. These scenarios are ones that are currently employed by our rapidly growing customer base worldwide and can be applied to a wide range of industries. The following information will help you work through the various demo resources and materials included on the Virtual PC to help progress your understanding of the depth of AgilePoint BPMS.

GETTING STARTED

Before working within the Virtual PC, explore the materials that are available outside of the Virtual PC environment to establish some orientation to the AgilePoint BPMS.

1. Open the AgilePoint Documentations folder and read through these materials about AgilePoint BPMS as desired. Familiarize yourself with the AgilePoint online Knowledge Base. This folder also includes an AgilePoint Brochures folder with some sales and marketing materials that provide value proposition information.

2. Open the Analyst Validations and Reports folder and browse through some of the latest Analyst recognition about AgilePoint.

3. Open the AgilePoint Videos folder and watch the videos as follows:

a. 1_AgilePoint and SharePoint: A shortcut to the Ascentn Web site to view a short introduction to the AgilePoint SharePoint integration capabilities for maximum efficiency and agility.

NOTE: A hands on tutorial for reproducing a similar demonstration can be found on the Virtual PC desktop at Demos Files\2_AgilePoint with InfoPath and SharePoint Demonstrations\Budget Request Demo 1 – SharePoint & InfoPath Form Server Integration > Budget Request Demo 1 Instructions.

b. 2_AgilePoint and ASP.NET Development: A shortcut to the Ascentn Web site to view a short introduction to developing ASP.NET applications using the AgilePoint framework.

c. 3_ProcessDesignFromScratch.avi: This video describes in detail the method to build a process model using AgilePoint’s process modeling component called the AgilePoint Envision.

d. 4_AgilePointWithInfopath.avi: This video describes creating an InfoPath based front-end form technology and associating the process model with it.

e. 5_CreateSchema.avi: This video describes associating process related data in the form of an XML schema directly to the process model.

f. 6_BindingSchemaToActivities.avi: This video describes a way to bind data elements of the XML Schema defined to the activities (if-else, single condition etc) of the process model.

g. 7_DataServices.avi: This video describes configuring AgilePoint’s Data Services which includes Data Population and Data Tracking features on the process modeling layer.

h. 8_Developer Videos: AgilePoint Developer related videos for creating custom AgilePoint components and extending AgilePoint applications.

4. Now that you have explored all of the items located outside the Virtual PC, now open the Virtual PC and click the Demo Files shortcut on the desktop. The Demo Files folder includes various AgilePoint demonstrations. Many of these demonstrations have PDF walk through documents to help you run the demonstrations.

5. Start with the Getting Started folder, there you will find two simple demo scenarios to get started with that cover the two basic application scenarios (i.e. SharePoint with ASP.NET task pages, and SharePoint with InfoPath task pages).

6. Work through the demonstration applications in the 2_AgilePoint with InfoPath and SharePoint Demonstrations folder. The Budget Request Demo 1 - SharePoint & InfoPath Form Server Integration is the best exercise for learning about the complete lifecycle of AgilePoint application development using InfoPath and SharePoint.

7. Work through the demonstration applications in the 3_AgilePoint with ASP NET Demonstrations folder.

8. You should now have a good understanding of how to work with the AgilePoint BPMS suite. Continue through the rest of the folders for more advanced application demonstrations.
