Receiver testing has reached a new levelof affordability. Ideal for in-channelreceiver testing, Agilent Technologies’additions to the economy line of RF sig-nal generators offer improved perfor-mance at affordable prices. The8648A/B/C/D provide 1, 2, 3.2 and 4 GHzcoverage, respectively, with a simple userinterface and the quality and reliabilityyou expect from Agilent Technologiesproducts.

SensitivitySensitivity measurements are easy to per-form with the economy signal generator’swide dynamic range. Covering the operat-ing range of even the most sensitivereceivers, the 8648A offers +10 to –136dBm, while the 8648B/C/D provide +13 to–136 dBm output power levels. With ±1dB level accuracy to –127 dBm below1GHz, you can be assured of accuraterepeatable measurements every time.

Determine receiver sensitivity in secondsby scrolling through required test levels. With independent amplitude and frequen-cy control knobs, amplitude levels can bechanged almost instantly.

Low RF leakage levels are necessary tosuccessfully test today’s sensitivereceivers. The 8648 series meet theserequirements with typically less than 1 µVleakage (nominally equivalent to 0.1 µVwhen measured with a two-turn loop).

Harmonic DistortionLow modulation distortion is impor-tant for harmonic distortion testing.FM distortion of typically less than0.5% allow you to make these mea-surements with confidence.

Hum and NoiseAccurately characterize receiver humand noise with the low residual FMperformance of the economy RF signal generators.

Semi-automated testingIncrease manual test productivity insemi-automated tests, such as receiv-er tuning and alignment. AgilentTechnologies economy signal genera-tors are ideal for high-volume manu-facturing.

Easy to useDesigned to simplify operator useand training, the front panel is orga-nized in easy-to-identify functionalblocks, and offers independent fre-quency and amplitude control knobs. The 300 internal storage registersand ten user- definable sequenceseasily adapt to any test procedure.Once test setups are saved in storageregisters, operators can quicklysequence through them to efficientlymake pass/fail decisions or tune areceiver.

High reliabilityKeep production lines up and run-ning with the 8648 series economysignal generators. Designed toAgilent Technologies’ stringent quali-ty and reliability specifications, thesesignal generators are optimized forlong-term dependability. The 8648 signal generators are manu-factured in an ISO 9002 registeredfacility in concurrence with AgilentTechnologies’ commitment to quality.

Use the latest in attenuator technolo-gy to keep up with the increasingdemands of output-level cycling. The1 GHz signal generators, the 8648A,maximize reliability with a patentedall-electronic attenuator. With nomoving parts to wear-out, the elec-tronic attenuator easily handles mil-lions of amplitude cycles with highlyrepeatable performance.

Low cost of ownershipLow price, high reliability and a two-year calibration cycle keep cost ofownership to a minimum.

Quickly make sensitivity measurementswith the twist of a knob. Two independentfrequency- and amplitude-control knobsprovide instant access.

Digitally squelched receivers

Extremely stable dc coupled FM precisely reproduces digital signalingcodes for pagers and other FM receiverswith selective squelch

Remote interfaceMaximize operator efficiency withthe 83300A remote interface. Thismouse-like keypad provides quickaccess to the sequences and storageregisters in the signal generator, aswell as RF amplitude on/off, andmodulation on/off. When the 83300Ais connected to the rear panel, remote control is at your fingertips. The operator no longer needs toaccess the front panel of the source.Operator training costs and requiredskill level is significantly reduced, while measurement consistency isassured across the production line.

General purpose stimulus/localoscillator

The economy line of RF signal gener-ators are ideal for RF receiver andcomponent measurements. Wide fre-quency coverage, solid performance, multiple modulation formats, uncom-promised quality and reliability allowyou to meet testing requirementswhile maintaining a budget.

CompatibilityGPIB programmability is standard forautomated test applications. TheSCPI programming standard is pro-vided to protect software invest-ments. In addition, the 8648 seriesreduces software development costsby providing full GPIB code compati-bility with the 8656B and 8657A/Bsignal generators.

The small size and lightweight are idealfor field test applications.

Memory interfaceUse the 83301A memory interface tosimplify storage register maintenancewhen using multiple 8648 signal gen-erators. The memory interface copiesthe register information from oneinstrument to another.

Compact and lightweightSave valuable bench space with thecompact design of the economy sig-nal generators. Measuring 13 incheswide and less than 15 inches deep the8648 require only minimal test space. In addition, they are lightweight æless than 18 lb. (9 kg) - ideal for ser-vice applications.
