DEAN’ S LETTER Well, it seems another program year has come to a close. Congratulations to Layton Graves, a senior at Southwestern High School who recently won the Harold R. Hunt Memorial Organ Scholarship Senior Award. Layton received favorable comments from the judges, Rodney Barnett, Jonathan Noel and myself. The election results for the Chapter have been tallied and announced as follows: Appointments commence July 1, 2013. Please contact me if you would like to play a recital this July or August. The Trust always appreciates our member’s performances. Remember that the Region III AGO Convention will be held this summer in Winchester, VA. Thank you for your support of the York Chapter over the past year. Just as a reminder, membership dues are now to be paid for 2013-2014. You can find the renewal form in this edition of Orgelzeit on page 15. June 23, 3:00PM Jonathan Noel, Organist at St Matthew Lutheran Church in York will present a recital at Trinity Lutheran Church (the little green church) , 415 N. West St, York. This recital is one of several major events celebrating Trinity’s Centennial .

USED MUSIC LIBRARY The AGO used music display is now organized and permanently available anytime in the music library at St. Matthew Lutheran Church by appointment. The music is available for a donation of $1 per copy and benefits the Harold R. Hunt and Theodore C. Herzel Scholarship Fund. The selection has just been updated and there is currently a great selection.

Part-time Organist Position Available First United Methodist Church of Hanover is seeking to fill a part-time position for a church organist.

This position involves providing organ selections, accompanying hymns, and accompanying adult choirs for two Sunday morning worship services. This organist will have the privilege of performing on our pipe organ which underwent an extensive rebuild in 2008 by the renowned Peragallo Organ Company. Complete upgrades include increasing the number of solo voices on the organ, strengthening the power of the pedals, and expanding the organ’s capabilities to 17 ½ ranks with a new MIDI electronic system for a total of 1056 speaking voices. This keyboardist will also accompany the adult choirs for one rehearsal per week. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Zion Lutheran Church of York Zion Lutheran Church is looking to fill the position of Traditional Music Director. We are looking for either a Traditional Music Director or Organist and Choir Director. All positions would be part-time employees; hours would be based on position. Salary and benefits would be determined based on position, education and experience. Preferred education is a BS in Music or equivalent experience in the field. Zion’s organ is an American Classic Organ built by Aeolian-Skinner and their are two Choirs and the potential for a Youth Choir. Qualified candidates would possess knowledge of ELCA’s religious beliefs, general understanding of Christian concepts, teachings and Lutheran liturgy. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church 2121 Roosevelt Ave in York is looking for an organist to play for Sunday and special worship services and to accompany their choir. Sunday worship services are at 11:00 AM. The choir is off for the summer and practices Thursday evenings at 7:00 (Sept-May). Mid-week Lenten and Advent services are scheduled on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM. Other current special services are scheduled on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve, all at 7:00 PM. VOLUNTEER(S)_ NEEDED!

Sally Harbold needs volunteer organists/pianists to play for Sunday afternoon services at Sprenkle Village (1:45 pm) and the Lutheran Home at Kelly Drive (3 pm). [Both are north side of York.] The service at Sprenkle requires a prelude and postlude, hymns are played during com-munion, on a clavinova. Kelly's service includes a full liturgy with communion, played on the organ or the piano, your choice. The chaplain at both services is a retired Army chaplain, has a wonderful sense of humor, and short/to-the-point sermons. You may play either one or both services, once/month or once/every other month, or whenever it fits your schedule. Sally would be most grateful to hear from you, at [email protected]

Westminster Concert Bell Choir Performs in York on June 7 The Westminster Concert Bell Choir, conducted by Kathleen Ebling Shaw, will perform at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in York on Friday, June 7 at 7:30 p.m. A suggested donation of $10 will be taken at the door. The program features original compositions and arrangements of familiar works for handbells including a transcription of J.S. Bach’s Fugue In G Minor, Johannes Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No. 5, and the traditional Irish folk song Londonderry Air. The ensemble will also perform contemporary works including Erroll Garner’s Misty and Paul Desmond’s Take Five. The Westminster Concert Bell Choir performs on the world’s largest range of handbells: 8 octaves. The ensemble has appeared on Public Television’s Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and several holiday broadcasts of the Today show. Most recently, it performed with singer Josh Groban in NBC’s nationally televised lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. Conductor Kathleen Ebling Shaw is a member of the faculty at Westminster Choir College, where she is teaches handbell training and conducts a second handbell choir. Well known internationally as a handbell clinician, she is also director of music at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Doylestown, Pa. Interesting Organ Tour Justin Nimmo sent us this link to a very interesting YouTube video of Martin Ellis playing and giving a tour of the WurliTzer in the Hilbert Circle Theatre in Indianapolis. You may remember that Justin played for SVTOS in June 2012, and he works for Carlton Smith who restored and installed the instruments. This is one of the organs that will be featured during the 2014 ATOS Convention in Indianapolis.
