5th Agrex India 2019 : In consonance of the efforts of Government of India

towards making the country self sufficient in food grain production and

increasing farm income, Media Today Group is organizing 5th Agrex India 2019 -

National Exhibition on Agriculture, Farm Machinery & Agri Processing

Technologies in Pune (Maharashtra), during 22-24 February 2019. The event,

along with its co-events 3rd FoodTech Pune 2019, 14th International Flora Expo

2019 and 11th International HortiExpo 2019 will focus on agricultural products,

farm machinery & equipment, technologies, processing and packaging

equipment etc.

The event is a unique platform for industry stakeholders from India and overseas

to display the latest trends, developments and technologies and boost business

avenues.

Why Pune?

Pune, the second largest city of the commercial capital of India – Maharashtra

state, has been home to a range of agri-horti products such as rice, wheat, coarse

grains, grapes, pomegranates, mangoes, banana, sugarcane, cashew, groundnut

and sunflower etc. apart from cut flowers. The district has high literacy level of

86.15%. The rivers like Bhima, Neera, Mula, Mutha, Indrayani and Ghod flow

through this district which carry a great volume of water and many irrigation

dams are constructed across these rivers. The district presents a varied

physiographic with highly undulating hilly topography on western side and large

plain stretch towards east. Government of Maharashtra is also planning further

strengthening of agri-horti sector and allied infrastructure for the same.

Pune, in addition has the locational advantage of being close to Mumbai, the

trade hub of India. Pune is also a major base for manufacturers of Greenhouse

manufacturers, and accessories suppliers. It has become a major hub for

international breeders and planting material suppliers and the ultra-modern

tissue culture labs for horticulture industry. Horticulture based post harvest

infrastructure facilities are spread across the district which is well connected by

road, rail and air with other parts of the country and overseas.

All these factor make Pune a dream choice for conducting a prestigious exhibition

like the 11th International Horti Expo 2019 along with its co-events, 3rd FoodTech

pune 2019, 14th International Flora Expo 2019 and 5th Agrex India 2019.

Agriculture is the largest livelihood provider in India

more so in the vast rural areas. Currently, more than

50 per cent of India's total workforce is engaged in

agriculture and its allied sectors like forestry,

fisheries, plantation etc. For most of the 21st

century India is expected to remain an agrarian society. Thus, one cannot

underplay the role of agricultural growth in improving rural incomes and securing

India's food and nutritional needs. It also contributes significantly to the Gross

Domestic Product (GDP).

Adequate production and distribution of food has become a high priority and

global concern. In the fast changing world and increasing competition in a

globalized economy, there is need to exploit the available resources to the

maximum level and use the best internationally available technologies. This will

help in coping with domestic demand for food and also contribute to

international exports.

India’s population is expected to reach 1.4 billion by 2020. The increasing

population, coupled with growing income will generate increased demand for

food grains and non-food grain crops. Therefore, Indian agriculture has to

achieve and maintain a consistent and higher growth rate of 4 per cent per

annum. Considering the constraints of land resources, it is only pertinent that

crop productivity is raised without using more land. This can be achieved only

through sustainable and precision farming so that food security, rural

employment are to be ensured. Therefore, environmentally sustainable

technologies such as soil conservation, natural resources and biodiversity

protection are essential for holistic rural development.

Initiatives by , Govt. of IndiaMinistry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare

In recent years much emphasis has been given by the Ministry of Agriculture &

Farmers Welfare on commercializing Indian agriculture. Strategies have been

planned and schemes have been launched to achieve 4 per cent annual growth

rate. These include focus on potential areas, regionally-differentiated strategies,

crop diversification, precision farming, and scientific management of natural

resources. The new initiatives in the form of National Food Security Mission and

Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana launched by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers

Welfare are also aimed at rejuvenating the agriculture sector.
