Agribusiness: Wine Marketing and SalesThe agribusiness curriculum in wine marketing and sales is designed to prepare you for a career involving selling wine to wholesalers, retailers, brokers, restau-rants, and the public. Throughout your coursework you will upgrade your level of knowledge and become skilled in identifying and suggesting marketing and selling strategies in the wine and grape industry. You will also become proficient in the analysis and promo-tion and distribution possibilities within the wine business. Brand name recognition and the evaluation of benchmarking alternatives is an important part of the program. Upon graduation you will be able to successfully prepare a marketing plan including pro-duction, labeling, advertising, compliance, financial control and supply options for a variety of different wine operations.
Employment Opportunities:With an A.S. degree/certificate in wine marketing & sales, you will be prepared for immediate employment in wine sales in positions such as:
• Wine wholesaler
• Wine retailer
• Wine broker
• Tasting room and restaurant sales
• Wine label design
• Regulatory compliance expert
There are many levels of wine sales ranging from the large distributorship to a small tasting room, and from a fine restaurant to a wine shop. Both older and new wineries require brand establishment and brand management that marketing and promotion personnel provide.
As an example, sales representatives in wholesale and manufacturing related occupations (including wine sales) earn a median wage of $24.68 per hour or $51,330 annually according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Facilities and Equipment:Our campus vineyard consists of four acres with more than 50 different varietals, but is mainly oriented towards the main region cultivars pinot noir and chardonnay. We are fully equipped with tractor and implements and a greenhouse coming soon.
Our campus winery, with an estimated production capacity of 2000 cases, is also fully equipped to perform all commercial winemaking activities.
