Background Information

• Global population growth is unprecedented, with the expected rise from 7.2 billion to 9.7 billion by 2050. Majority of this population will still be youths, (UN, 2015).

• 85% of this population leave in developing countries, meaning we are the most affected by unemployment. Of this 60% are in rural areas

• Youth unemployment in Kenya is exacerbated by limited financial inclusion which slows down enterprise development (Equity Group Foundation, n.d)

• Kenya aspires to grow its GDP by 10% in 2040 by promoting value added agricultural production and innovative entrepreneurship by young people (GoK, 2007).
